A method for flowing a fluid from and/or to a subsurface formation includes disposing a main production tubular in a main borehole penetrating the subsurface formation, the main production tubular being coupled to a shunt assembly, the shunt assembly defining an opening oriented and biased in a desired direction for a lateral borehole penetrating the subsurface formation and having a shunt tube that bypasses the opening. The method also includes drilling the lateral borehole through the opening in the shunt assembly and installing a completion having a lateral production tubular coupled to a completion device in the lateral borehole through the opening. The method further incudes flowing the fluid from the subsurface formation to the shunt tube and/or from the shunt tube to the subsurface formation.

A running tool includes a tool body having a fluid conduit, and an actuation assembly including an actuator member connected to a release mechanism, the actuator member moveable in an axial direction from a first position to a second position to cause the release mechanism to disengage with a downhole component. The actuation assembly includes a first pressure chamber in pressure communication with the fluid conduit, where the running tool is configured to be activated to release the downhole component by applying fluid pressure to the first pressure chamber to generate an actuation force that moves the actuator member to the second position. The running tool also includes a second pressure chamber in pressure communication with the same fluid conduit. The second pressure chamber is configured to receive borehole fluid from the fluid conduit during deployment and apply a balancing force to the actuator member during the deployment.

A modular screen system includes a tubular member having an outer surface defining an outer diameter and an inner surface defining an inner diameter. The outer surface includes an opening and a recess extending about the opening. A flow control device is positioned at the opening in the recess, and a screen member is detachably mounted to the tubular in the recess. The screen member includes a filtering surface that does not project proudly of the outer surface.

A test sub having a housing with a first end, a second end, a bore, and an exterior portion of the housing including a coiled tubing connector may be used to test a connection with coiled tubing. The test sub includes a valve positioned within the bore. The second end of the housing may be inserted into coiled tubing and fluid may be pumped into the housing to test the connection between the connector and the coiled tubing. The test sub may be a housing that may be attached to a coiled tubing connector already connected to coiled tubing. A rod within the housing may be moved to an inserted position permitting communication between a pressure port of the housing and an exterior port of the coiled tubing connector. Fluid may be pumped into the pressure port to test the connection between the coiled tubing connector and the coiled tubing.
