Technologies and implementations for wireless communication in a wireless network including transmitting downlink information on a first frequency channel to Frequency Division Duplexing (FDD) User Equipments (UEs), transmitting downlink information on a second frequency channel during downlink portions of Time Domain Duplex (TDD) frame periods of the second frequency channel to TDD UEs, wherein the second frequency channel is the same as the frequency channel on which the FDD UEs are configured to transmit, and controlling uplink transmissions from the FDD UEs to occur only during uplink portions of TDD frame periods of the second frequency channel.

Hybrid FDD/TDD wireless network

In a wireless communication device, an example method of transmitting location data for a location of the wireless communication device includes using a short-range radio communication protocol to receive, without prior interrogation, radio signals from any nearby autonomously transmitting radio-transmitting device, detecting the location data in a radio signal from a nearby autonomously transmitting radio-transmitting device, wherein the radio signal is the strongest radio signal that includes location data, measuring a received signal level of the radio signal from the autonomously transmitting radio-transmitting device, and transmitting the location data and the received signal level of the radio signal to a third party.

Location-transmitting device for determining location of a wireless communication device

A location-transmitting device autonomously transmits a signal containing location data for the location-transmitting device to any nearby wireless communication device. The wireless communication device may then transmit said location data to a third party, such as an E-911 dispatch center or a provider of a commercial location-based service.

Technologies are described for reliably constraining a maximum transmission power of a mobile communication device such as a cellular phone so that RF radiation associated with that transmission and incident to a head of the device's user can be held at or below predetermined 'safe' levels. Upon determining an operational or communication mode of the mobile communication device where it is likely to be held against or very near the user's head, its maximum transmit power may be reduced until the near-head operation is completed. The reduction may be to a fixed maximum level or may be adjusted to allow for a maximum amount of radiated energy over a period of time. The reduction may also take into account adjustment factors such as frequency band, modulation, antenna gain, and similar factors.

Reduction of cephalic absorption of radiation from mobile communication devices

A method of allocating wireless data delivery services to users allows management of mobile data channel peak loading. A per-user metering structure for wireless broadband data services includes a target data throughput allowance provided to the network user for a relatively short time period known as a metering period, where a plurality of metering periods are contained in a billing period. Use of the method disclosed herein constrains the most load-impactive users, such as users streaming high-resolution videos, during periods of data channel congestion compared to typical users, such as users browsing the Internet.

Peak load management of a wireless data channel

A method and system for enabling automatic or semi-automatic interactive responses to electronic queries using audio-band coded data as the query medium and wireless data communications as the response medium. Typical applications include interactive broadcast advertising in which a coded data query is embedded in a broadcast audio channel and reproduced as an acoustic audio signal in a broadcast receiver. This acoustic signal is then detected by the microphone of a wireless telephone and decoded and processed by the electronic circuitry of said wireless telephone. Upon a pre-determined further action by the user, the decoded and processed query data causes the wireless telephone to transmit a pre-determined message. The pre-determined message includes information which instructs the serving wireless network to properly route the message so that it effectively provides a response to the original query.

Wireless interactive transaction system

The emergency wireless telephone and system describes improved control and service offered in the conventional public telephone system as pertains to cellular telephone service. The system contemplates an emergency wireless telephone, with options, including: (1) a method and system of alerting the user of a mobile emergency phone without the need for keeping the telephone's electronics under power, (2) a system which enables the control and responsibility for a call to be moved further downstream at a cellular telephone switch, by altering the character and use of the mobile identification number and by reprogramming the telephone switch, (3) establishing a hierarchy for and insuring that the identification of the calling party is transmitted, both before and after answer supervision is transferred, (4) an fraud protection, interactive identification system using a key and mathematical operator which both verifies the user's identity and eliminates the need for the look-up of the caller's telephone or account number, (5) an interactive in phone switch which can interactively select between the 'A' side and 'B' side carriers in a given locale, (6) a system which can implement a manual call back method of handling incoming calls, and (7) a system which enables automatic 'meet me' handling of incoming calls.

Emergency wireless telephone and control system, and method

A cellular phone paging system that uses a frame oriented scheme to transmit and receive mobile unit pages with reduced delay is disclosed. Each mobile unit in the cellular phone network is assigned a paging slot within the frames on the forward control channel. If a plurality of pages are to be sent along the forward control channel and the pages are assigned to the same paging slot, the pages will be transmitted in successive paging slots beginning with the assigned slot rather than in the assigned slot in a series of sequential frames. In order to receive its pages, a mobile unit inspects its assigned paging slot and the next sequential paging slots if its assigned paging slot has been filled with a page request to another unit. The mobile unit continues to check sequential paging slots until it identifies a page to itself or identifies an empty slot. The mobile unit may reduce its power consumption by turning off some of its electronic circuitry while not monitoring the contents of its assigned slot and, if necessary, the contents of successive slots. In this manner, paging delays between base stations and mobile units are reduced to a minimum while maintaining idle mode power consumption conservation provided by frame-based paging schemes.

Cellular phone page system using sequential transmissions of pages over

A system for marking a plurality of zones within a cellular service area. One or more marker transmitters are disposed throughout a cellular area to transmit a zone identification signal that is independent of normal RF cellular coverage to a mobile or portable cellular receiver. Each zone identification signal is transmitted in a radio frequency coverage area that illuminates the zone to be identified and is constrained by a similar transmitter jamming the zone signal. The marker transmitters are programmed to transmit the zone identification signal during a predefined time slot so that more than one marker transmitter may simultaneously transmit the zone identification signal, thereby increasing the area in which the zone identification signal can be received by the mobile unit. In order to reduce the area in which a zone identification signal may be received by a mobile unit, the marker transmitters may transmit a jamming signal at the same time as the zone identification signal is transmitted.
