Disclosed herein are personal care compositions having at least one oligopeptide self-assembled into nanofibers or macrostructures, wherein the oligopeptide is 2-20 amino acids in length, and wherein the oligopeptide has at least one 0- to 10-amino-acid block of hydrophobic amino acids alternating with at least one 1- to 10-amino-acid block of hydrophilic amino acid residues. The composition may further include a dermatologically acceptable carrier and at least one cosmetic skin care agent.

Personal care compositions comprising self-assembling peptides

The present invention includes compositions comprising an active material having groups capable of covalent attachment to a substrate in the presence of an acid or a base, a photocatalyst capable of generating an acid or a base upon exposure to light, and a vehicle. Also included herein is a method for treating a substrate with these compositions. The method includes the steps of applying at least one active material having functional groups to the substrate, applying a photocatalyst to the substrate, and exposing the photocatalyst and the at least one active material to light for forming covalent attachments between the functional groups and constituent groups on the substrate. The compositions and methods described herein are useful in consumer care and personal care product applications.

Personal care compositions comprising responsive particles. In one aspect, the responsive particle comprises: (1) a particle core having an interfacial surface, (2) a first polymer having a first property, and (3) a second polymer having a contrasting property. The first polymer and the second polymer are attached at different locations to the interfacial surface of the particle core. In another aspect, the responsive particle comprises: (1) a particle core having an interfacial surface, (2) at least one block co-polymer comprising a first block and a second block, wherein said first block has a first property and said second block has a second property, and (3) optionally, at least one other polymer having a third property. The block co-polymer and the optional other polymer (if present) are attached to the interfacial surface of the particle core, and at least one of the properties contrasts. The personal care compositions also comprise a dermatologically acceptable carrier. Also disclosed are methods of making responsive particles.

Personal care compositions comprising responsive particles

The present invention relates to a composition including an active material having groups capable of covalent attachment to a substrate in the presence of an acid or a base, a photocatalyst capable of generating an acid or a base upon exposure to light, and a vehicle. The active is a silicone polymer and/or a silicone oligomer, having a molecular weight higher than 1,000 grams/mole, and at least one organic functional group. The compositions may also include surfactants, emulsifiers, oxidants, and other components. A method for treating a substrate is also disclosed. The compositions and methods described herein are useful in personal care product and consumer care product applications.

A conditioning composition containing an aminosilicone having a viscosity of from about 1,000 cs to about 1,000,000 cs, and less than about 0.5% nitrogen by weight of the aminosilicone, a cationic surfactant, a high melting point fatty compound, and an aqueous carrier. These compositions may optionally comprise a low viscosity fluid. The present invention is further directed to a method of making the conditioning composition and a method of using the conditioning composition.

Compositions, articles and methods are provided for supplying fabric care benefits to clothing or fabrics in an automated washing machine and by manual washing. The fabric care compositions preferably have less than about 5% detergent surfactants, more preferably less than 3%, even more preferably less than 1% and are most preferably free of detergent surfactants. Similarly, the fabric care compositions preferably have less than about 5% fabric softener actives, more preferably less than 3%, even more preferably less than 1% and are most preferably free of detergent surfactants. The laundry articles can take a variety of forms in a variety of physical states all of which will rapidly dispense a unitized amount of one or more selected fabric care agents to a wash and/or rinse bath solution during the laundering process under a variety of conditions. The invention also pertains to laundry kits that contain a variety of such articles and instructions concerning their use. Likewise, methods for preparing a customized laundry solution to obtain a specific fabric care benefit selected based on the user's personal preferences and/or the fabric care needs of the fabrics being laundered are also provided. Further, the present invention also concerns methods for assisting a consumer in identifying the unitized articles to be used in preparing a laundry solution that will impart desired fabric care benefits as well as merchandising displays for dispensing the articles, assembling customized laundry kits and instructing the consumer on the selection and use of laundry articles.

Clear, or translucent fabric softener compositions comprise fabric softener compound, principal solvent system, and high electrolyte levels. The high electrolyte level allows for a broader range of principal solvents to be used and/or reduces the incidence of increased viscosity when low levels of principal solvent are used. Phase stabilizers which are primarily ethoxylated hydrophobic materials can be used to reduce the amount of principal solvent that is needed and/or to stabilize the compositions in the presence of the highest levels of electrolyte. Specific phase stabilizers provide additional benefits including improved softening. Specific electrolytes provide improved results. Addition of primary solvents and/or phase stabilizers to the softener compounds can improve the viscosity/handling of the compounds and the ability to create the finished compositions.

Clear or translucent aqueous fabric softener compositions containing high electrolyte content and optional phase stabilizer

Clear/translucent formulations comprise polyquaternary ammonium actives with lower, or no, solvent levels except the solvent which is normally present in the polyquaternary raw material stocks by choosing highly efficient principal solvents within a specific Clog P range, employing higher levels of polyquaternary ammonium actives, and/or augmenting the bilayer with surfactants and/or polar oils. Compositions with lowered solvent levels have at or below about 5% by volume of secondary dispersed phases, preferably below about 3% by volume of secondary dispersed phases, and more preferably below about 1% by volume of secondary dispersed phases. The most preferred compositions are essentially free of secondary dispersed phases. High-speed centrifugation easily and quickly reveals the % volume of secondary phase(s).
