In a laser machining machine () for laser welding of workpieces, in particular for lap welding of DBC structures, comprising a laser beam generator for generating a laser beam and an optical imaging system for imaging the laser beam into a machining plane, according to the invention, the optical imaging system comprises an optical beam-shaping system, which images the laser beam in the machining plane with an imaging depth (&#x394;d) of at least &#xb1;2 mm, preferably of at least &#xb1;5 mm, in such a way that the radial power density distribution (P) of the laser beam is bell-shaped along the imaging depth (&#x394;d) in each plane at right angles to the beam axis and the maximum values (P) of these bell-shaped power density distributions (P) along the imaging depth (&#x394;d) vary in relation to one another by less than 10%, preferably by less than 5%.

Laser machining machines and methods for lap welding of workpieces

A laser welding method includes guiding laser pulses to a workpiece surface of workpieces and adjusting a power of the laser pulses according to a time pulse curve to spot weld the workpieces together. The time pulse curve has a first pulse section having a rising pulse flank for generating a melting temperature and subsequently a vaporization temperature in the workpieces, a second pulse section for melt bath generation having a vapor channel in the workpieces, a third pulse section having a pulse flank which initially drops vertically to at least &#xbe; of the power at an end of the second pulse section and subsequently drops more flatly for reversion of the vapor channel, and a fourth pulse section having a low pulse plateau and a level of between &#x2153; and &#xbc; of the power at the end of the second pulse section for oscillation of the melt.

A solid-state laser arrangement includes a plate-like solid body including a laser-active medium, a heat sink, a layer of adhesive between a carrier face of the heat sink and the plate-like solid body, and a reflective coating on a side of the plate-like solid body facing the adhesive layer, in which the adhesive layer is completely shielded from radiation from the plate-like solid body by a radiation-impermeable region between the side of the plate-like solid body facing the adhesive layer and the carrier face of the heat sink.
