Fiber-reinforced material and production and use thereof

There is described a fiber-reinforced material composed of a sheetlike textile material and a thermoset resin with a fiber content of from 30 to 70% by weight, at least 30% of the fiber being synthetic fiber. The thermoset resin is preferably a phenolic resin which contains up to 25% by weight of a fluoropolymer. The sheetlike textile material is preferably 100% synthetic fiber, in particular polyacrylonitrile fiber. There are also described a prepreg formed from the textile material and the thermosetting resin and the process for producing these articles and the use of the material for producing construction elements, in particular for hydraulic systems, by application of mechanical shaping processes.

There are described a multicomponent compound yarn composed of at least three components, wherein a first component comprises from 40 to 70 percent by volume of thermoplastic fibers, a second component comprises from 10 to 30 percent by volume of polyfluorocarbon fibers, and a third component comprises from 10 to 50 percent by volume of fiber made of a polymer whose melting point is at least 20.degree. C. above the melting point of the fibers of the first component, and processes for producing it. A non-woven solidified by means of a melt binder is described, which is based on supporting aramid fibers and on binding fibers made of thermoplastic aramids whose melting point is below the melting or decomposition point of said supporting aramid fibers. In the non-woven, the binding fibers are virtually completely melted. The non-wovens are distinguished by high strength.

There is described a process for manufacturing a dimensionally stable, three-dimensionally shaped, sheetlike textile material by bringing one or more layers of a deep-drawable textile material made of yarns, preferably a knitted material, and containing reinforcing fibers and a thermoplastic matrix material in fiber form which melts at a lower temperature than the reinforcing fibers, into the shape desired for the core material by an area-enlarging shaping process, for example by deep-drawing, at a temperature at which the fibrous thermoplastic matrix material melts, then reducing the temperature to back down to below the melting point of the thermoplastic matrix material and keeping the shaped material in the mold until the thermoplastic matrix material has sufficiently hardened, and then demolding the resulting shaped textile material.

A formable textile material is described comprising a textile sheet material comprising at least two different kinds of polyester yarn, at least one of the yarns having a heat shrinkage at the boil of at least 45%, preferably at least 60%, and at least one of the yarns having a heat shrinkage of at most 10%, preferably at most 5%, in the shrunk and unshrunk state; further the formable textile material provided with a resin finish and a dimensionally stable network material produced therefrom. Processes for producing these articles are also specified.
