A method includes simultaneously measuring electrophysiological responses and contractility responses of a plurality of cells forming a tissue culture using a system comprising a sensor array configured to simultaneously measure the electrophysiological responses and the contractility responses of the plurality of cells forming the tissue culture. Fabrication techniques for making such systems include: forming a sensor array comprising an interpenetrating arrangement of IDEs and electrodes of a MEA in or on a substrate surface; forming a plurality of contacts for interfacing the system with one or more external devices in or on the substrate surface; and forming leads between the plurality of contacts and the sensor array.

Sensor array and apparatus for simultaneous observation of tissue electrophysiology, contractility, and growth

A multi-channel optical detection system includes a base unit adapted to receive a multi-chamber assay cartridge having a plurality of reaction chambers loaded with a sample and an optical detection reagent, and an optical detection unit having a multi-channel optical block having a plurality of detection channels each with an associated light source, and an optic sensor. The optical detection unit is connectable to the base unit so that interrogation ports of the detection channels are optically aligned with optically transparent windows of the reaction chambers of a loaded cartridge, so that upon initialization, light sources are activated to interrogate reaction products in the reaction chambers and detect the optical responses therefrom.

Multi-channel optical detection system and method for multi-chamber assays

The present disclosure relates to a biocompatible, in vitro probe system. The probe system may have a substrate and a culture well supported on the substrate. The culture well defines a three-dimensional volume for containing in vitro cultures of electroactive cells. The probe system has at least one probe subsystem supported on the substrate. The probe subsystem has at least one probe having an array of electrodes, with the probe being disposed within the culture well for in vitro electrically communicating with the electroactive cells. The probe subsystem is adapted to be interfaced to an external instrumentation/recording device.

System and method for three-dimensional in vitro flexible microelectrode array

A sensor array for simultaneously measuring electrophysiological responses and contractility responses of a tissue includes: a substrate; a multi-electrode array (MEA) disposed in or on the substrate; and a plurality of interdigitized electrodes (IDEs) disposed in or on the substrate. The MEA and the IDEs are interpenetrating within a plane substantially parallel to an upper surface of the substrate. Systems for measuring such responses using the sensor array may also include contacts and/or connectors for interfacing with external control devices, electrodes, and cell culture components such as a chamber and lid. Fabrication techniques for making such systems include: forming a sensor array comprising an interpenetrating arrangement of IDEs and electrodes of a MEA in or on a substrate surface; forming a plurality of contacts for interfacing the system with one or more external devices in or on the substrate surface; and forming leads between the plurality of contacts and the sensor array.

In one embodiment, a system includes a bioreactor coupled to a substrate. The bioreactor includes: a plurality of walls defining a reservoir; a plurality of fluidic channels in at least some of the walls; a fluidic inlet in fluidic communication with the reservoir via, the fluidic channels; a fluidic outlet in fluidic communication with the reservoir via the fluidic channels; and one or more sensors coupled to the reservoir, each sensor being configured to detect one or more of: environmental conditions in the reservoir; and physiological conditions of one or more cells optionally present in the reservoir. In another embodiment, a method includes delivering media to a reservoir of a bioreactor; delivering a plurality of cells to the reservoir, controlling a reservoir temperature and a reservoir gas composition; using one or more of the sensors to monitor environmental and physiological conditions; and reporting the environmental and/or physiological conditions.

Miniaturized, automated in-vitro tissue bioreactor

In one embodiment, a product includes a plurality of particles, each particle including: a carrier that includes a non-toxic material; and at least one DNA barcode coupled to the carrier, where the particles each have a diameter in a range from about 1 nanometer to about 100 microns.

A flow cytometer includes a flow cell for detecting the sample, an oil phase in the flow cell, a water phase in the flow cell, an oil-water interface between the oil phase and the water phase, a detector for detecting the sample at the oil-water interface, and a hydrophobic unit operatively connected to the sample. The hydrophobic unit is attached to the sample. The sample and the hydrophobic unit are placed in an oil and water combination. The sample is detected at the interface between the oil phase and the water phase.
