Printing system and method for reducing the visibility of gloss differentials having at least one computer-supported inline imaging unit assembly designed to measure specular light reflecting gloss differentials of printed ink. At least one smoothing roller assembly is operationally connected to at least one sheet transport assembly or a smoothing transport subassembly of the sheet transport assembly of the printing system. A smoothing roller assembly is designed to roll at least partly the length and width of at least one printed side of at least one printed sheet disposed along the transport subassembly, pressure generated by the smoothing roller assembly configured to reduce detected gloss differentials from printed ink. At least the outer surface of the at least one smoothing roller assembly is substantially at least one or more of metal and polyurethane.

System and method to reduce the visibility of gloss differentials on printed sheets

An input/output of a system receives an electronic file comprising text. A processor of the system identifies keywords in the text. The processor correlates the keywords to music attributes and matches the music attributes to musical works. The processor determines computer network locations of the musical works. The processor also adds links to the network locations of the musical works to the electronic file to create a music-enhanced electronic file. The input/output outputs the music-enhanced electronic file that now contains the links to the musical works.

Techniques for operating a digital printer that includes a media transport and an electronic imager disposed in a path of the media transport are presented. The techniques include: receiving an electronic image of a media sheet obtained by the electronic imager; identifying, from the electronic image of the media sheet, a print-prohibited region of the media sheet; generating a mask representing the print-prohibited region of the media sheet; and electronically storing in electronic persistent memory, in association with an identification of a type of the media sheet, a template comprising information regarding the media sheet type, where the template includes an identification of the print-prohibited region represented by the mask.

An image processing system and method provide for receiving a digital document page to be printed. The page includes a background region for which no color is specified. A user is presented with an option to select a print medium from a set of print media of different colors and to select an option for a color of the selected print medium be used as a color of a background layer of the digital document page. When the option is selected, a background layer is inserted into the page. A print job incorporating the processed digital document page is output to an associated printer that is configured to convert the color of the background layer to colorant values that use the print media as a colorant for rendering at least a part of the background region.

Various systems and methods maintain a print job of a user in a print queue and identify the user approaching a printing device using a user identification device operatively connected to the printing device. Such systems/methods alter the position of the print job within the print queue (e.g., to a higher priority position) or even begin printing the print job when the user identification device identifies the user approaching the printing device (i.e., before the user reaches the printing device). Systems and methods can also identify the urgency of the user using the user identification device. The amount that the print queue is altered can be based on the amount that the urgency of the user is elevated.

A cart that moves through a three-dimensional object printing system includes a platform and a cleaning device configured to remove material from a surface as the platform passes the surface. The cart further includes a rechargeable power supply configured to be connected to the cleaning device. A controller onboard the cart is operatively connected to the rechargeable power supply and the cleaning device. The controller is configured to connect the rechargeable power supply to the cleaning device and operate the cleaning device to clean the surface.

A gravity-assisted registration system suited to use in a printing device includes a transport member with a surface on which an associated sheet is translated in a process direction. The surface defines an angle with respect to horizontal in a cross-process direction. A registration wall, adjacent a lower end of the surface, defines a registration edge for registering the sheet. A drive mechanism drives at least one rotation mechanism, for translating sheet in the process direction, each rotation mechanism including at least one drive member with an axis of rotation parallel to the surface in the cross-process direction, Each drive member includes a sliding mechanism, at a periphery of the drive member, enabling the sheet to slide, under gravity, on the surface, toward the registration wall into an alignment position, in contact with the registration wall.

A printing system treats the surface of three-dimensional objects to be printed to improve the printing of the articles of manufacture. The system includes a surface treatment module that is positioned to part of the printing process and to treat the object surfaces prior to the surfaces being printed. The treatment of the surfaces within the module include operating an abrasive device to remove material from an object surface and to apply solvent to the object surface to clean the surface.

What is disclosed is an object holder for securely retaining a 3-dimensional object while it is being printed in a direct-to-object print system and a direct-to-object print system configured to use various embodiments of the object holder of the present invention. In one embodiment, the object holder comprises a frame configured to slideably traverse a support member positioned parallel to a plane formed by at least one printhead configured to eject marking material on to a surface of an object. A flexible belt is positioned around an inside of the frame to form a circle. One end of the belt is fixed to the frame. An opposite end of the belt passes through an opening in a side of the frame. Pulling the belt through the opening tightens the belt encircled around the object in the frame. A lock prevents the belt from loosening after it has been pulled tight.

A vacuum finish curing chamber is provided within, or associated with one or more 3D printers to provide a locally-generated substantially oxygen depleted curing environment to support effective and efficient surface curing of one or more formed 3D printed parts. The vacuum finish curing system includes at least one device for emitting curing radiation and at least one object transport system for transporting formed 3D objects to the vacuum finish curing chamber without requiring user handling that would be hazardous to handling individuals.

What is disclosed is system which facilitates the application of a mark to a surface of an object in a direct-to-object print system and a direct-to-object print system configured to use various embodiments of the present marking system. The present marking system comprises a camera for capturing an image of an object retained by an object holder configured to slideably traverse a support member positioned to be parallel to a plane formed by at least one printhead configured to eject in onto a surface of the object. A processor receives an image of an object held and communicates the image to a display. A mark to be printed on the object is retrieved and overlaid on the object in the image. A location of the overlaid mark is determined and communicated to a controller which causes the printhead to print the mark on the object at the location.

What is disclosed is an object holder for securely retaining an object while it is being printed in a direct-to-object print system and a direct-to-object print system configured to use various embodiments of the object holder of the present invention. In one embodiment, the object holder comprises a shuttle mount configured to slideably traverse a support member positioned parallel to a plane formed by at least one printhead configured to eject marking material on to a surface of an object. A memory foam is attached to the shuttle mount. A vacuum pump is used to withdraw a volume of air through a hole in the memory foam such that, a difference in air pressure causes an object to be pressed against the face of the memory foam causing the foam to partially deform to the object's shape.

A printing system includes a housing, a track supported by the housing, and a cart which rides along the track. The printing system also includes print heads which eject material onto the cart. To prevent material from inadvertently accumulating on the track and the housing, the cart also includes a wiper configured to wipe the material from at least a portion of the housing. The printing system also includes at least one collection tray configured to direct and/or collect the material wiped from the housing. The printing system further includes a coating applied to outer surfaces of at least some of the elements of the housing, the track, and the cart to further prevent the material from inadvertently accumulating on the track and the housing. The coating can be a siloxyfluorocarbon coating.
