A positioning system for providing current position data of the capsule in vivo may be included in the capsule and/or external to it. External magnets may generate a magnetic field to scan a body lumen by causing a predetermined motion pattern of the imaging capsule within a region proximate to its current position, and generate a driving force to propel the imaging capsule according to a calculated target direction vector. A processor may calculate a target direction vector for propelling the imaging capsule based, on unique patterns identifiable in one or more images.

System and method for automatic navigation of a capsule based on image stream captured in-vivo

In-vivo devices, systems and methods for the detection of blood within in-vivo bodily fluids. The methods include irradiating in-vivo fluids passing through a gap in a housing of an in-vivo device introduced to the GI tract of a subject with a plurality of illumination sources positioned on a first side of a gap; detecting with at least one light detector positioned on the opposite side of the gap and facing the illumination sources, light irradiated by the illumination sources; transmitting a plurality of values representing the light detected over time; converting these values to blood concentration values over time, and comparing the blood concentration values to a predetermined threshold value. Based on the comparison, the method includes determining the type of bleeding profile, such that if a plurality of blood concentration values measured consecutively is above the threshold value, the bleeding profile indicates bleeding.

Device, system and method for in-vivo detection of bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract

Embodiments of the invention include a method and system for displaying an in vivo imaging procedure. The method includes receiving real-time image data captured by the capsule, and continuously generating an updated summarized color bar, said color bar comprising color strips and time scale marks. The color bar is calculated based on color values of received image data, and is updated continuously as new image data is received. The displayed time period is periodically updated, for example based on predetermined fixed time intervals, based on varying time intervals, or based on an accumulated amount of received image data. Other methods of determining the periodic updates may be used.

Devices and methods for optically scanning an in-vivo lumen, and for determining contact between an in-vivo device and an in-vivo lumen wall. The device may include an elongated housing having a cylindrical portion. At least one illuminating body may provide illumination at the circumference of the cylindrical portion, and at least one light sensor may sense light that penetrated and was scattered from the tissue of the in vivo lumen. The device may include a barrier for preventing direct illumination from the illuminating body from reaching the light sensor and for decreasing the amount of direct light reflection from the outer surface of the in vivo lumen onto the light sensor.

Device and method for in vivo imaging

A device, system and method for detecting bile and blood are provided. The device may comprise a housing having a gap through which in-vivo fluids may flow, illumination sources on one side of the gap, a light detector which is facing the illumination sources and is positioned on the opposite side of the gap for detecting light which passes through the in-vivo fluids, and a transmitter to transmit the detected signals generated according to the detected light. The system may further comprise a receiver to receive the detected signals transmitted by the transmitter, and a processor. The in-vivo examining device includes a monitoring mechanism that becomes deactivated when exposed to in-vivo substances native to the small bowel or the colon, and a degradable device body that includes at least a first body portion which degrades at a slow rate when exposed to in-vivo substances native to the small bowel and at a fast rate when exposed to in-vivo substances native to the colon. The degradation of the degradable device body exposes the monitoring mechanism to substances native to the small bowel or the colon and thus indicates whether the examining device has safely passed through the small bowel or whether it is retained in the small bowel due to strictures in the small bowel.
