There is described an apparatus for storing heat. The apparatus comprises a thermal mass for storing heat, the thermal mass having a first surface and a second surface. Fins are provided on the first surface and the second surface for accelerating heat transfer to and from the thermal mass. A displacement mechanism is secured to the thermal mass for translating the first surface to a first environment, e.g., a duct, while removing the second surface and its fins from a second environment, e.g., outside, and for translating the second surface to the second environment while removing the first surface and its fins from the first environment.

Transient heat absorption and delayed dissipation by high heat capacity material

There is described an apparatus for converting heat dissipated from a pipe of a refrigeration cycle into electric power. The pipe has an outer surface from which heat dissipates. The apparatus comprises at least one TEG receptacle for installing a thermoelectric generator therein, the TEG receptacle comprising a cold side and a hot side. The apparatus further comprises at least one conductive body in thermal contact with at least a portion of the outer surface of the pipe and adapted to conduct the heat from the outer surface of the pipe to the hot side of at least one TEG receptacle. The apparatus further comprises one heat sink for each one of the at least one TEG receptacle, in thermal contact with the cold side thereof.

Apparatus for thermoelectric generation on HVAC pipes

There is provided a chassis for a computing system comprising a heat-generating element. The chassis comprises a body with at least a portion thereof made of a non-metallic material, namely a nonmetallic portion. For example, the non-metallic material can be a moldable plastic. There is provided a channel made in the non-metallic portion, the channel having a starting point close to a dedicated location for a fan, the channel having an ending point close to a dedicated portion for the heat-generating element, the channel shaped to guide fluid propelled at the starting point to the ending point. The channel can be a tunnel inside the body or a valley on the surface of the body, and confines fluid flow from the fan, guiding the fluid flow to the heat-generating element.

Fluid flow tunnelling in a non-metallic computer chassis

There is described a circuit to supply electric power to N electrical panels. The circuit comprises N+1 blockbars, each one of the blockbars being for connection to an automatic transfer switch (ATS) of a power source, each one of the blockbars being connected to at least two other ones of the N+1 blockbars via a segregating switchgear. The circuit further comprises N+1 UPS units, each one of the UPS units being for connection to a dedicated one of the blockbars via a dedicated switchgear. The circuit further comprises 2N power outputs, each one of the N electrical panels being connected to 2 of the 2N power outputs, each one of the 2N power outputs being connected to 2 of the N+1 UPS units. This configuration allows for N+1 redundancy at the generator and UPS levels to feed the electrical distribution with 2N redundancy.

System for redundant power supply to a data center

There is provided a light collecting device comprising a concave portion for receiving incoming light. The concave portion comprises a reflective inner surface for directing at least partly the incoming light toward a focal spot, which is defined by a geometry of the concave portion. A light guide holder is held in place at the focal spot and holds a light-receiving end of a light guide, inside its annular shape. It holds the light-receiving end toward the concave portion to substantially capture the incoming light directed toward the focal spot. The concave portion can be a dish or a lamp reflector. The light guide holder can be held in place by arms having pads that rest on or hold the concave portion.

Light collection device

The present document describes an apparatus for recovering heat from an electronic component to generate electric energy. The apparatus comprises a thermoelectric generator having a cold side and a hot side, the hot side being in thermal communication with the electronic component. The apparatus further comprises a heat dissipation device in thermal communication with the cold side of the thermoelectric generator for dissipate heat it receives, and a heat transfer device with a thermal conductivity greater than 200 W(m&#xb7;K) for directly transferring the heat from the electronic component to the heat dissipation device.

Apparatus for thermoelectric recovery of electronic waste heat

There is described a blind for installation between an inner environment and an outer environment where light originates. The blind comprises slats substantially forming a vertically periodic arrangement. Each one of the slats extends in a substantially horizontal axis, and comprises an upper surface and a lower surface. The upper surface has a normal oriented both upwardly and toward the outer environment, and comprises a coating providing specular reflection. The lower surface has reflection normal oriented both downwardly and toward any one of the outer environment and the inner environment, and comprises a coating providing specular reflection. The upper surface and the lower surface of a given slat are joined at an apex pointing toward the outer environment.

Sunlight-reflecting blinds

There is described an apparatus for installation on a hand having a thumb and opposable fingers, both having joints and phalanges. The apparatus comprises biasing devices. Each one of the biasing devices substantially has an inversed V shape formed by a hinge, a distal end and a proximal end. The biasing devices are connected together to form the apparatus. The hinges of the biasing devices are spatially distributed so that each hinge covers a corresponding one of the joints and biases the distal end and proximal end toward each other. The apparatus keeps the hand in a substantially closed position to assist in gripping objects.
