The disclosed technology is generally directed to communications in an IoT environment. For example, such technology is usable for IoT data control. In one example of the technology, a declarative data request is received. The declarative data request is a request for data from multiple IoT devices. The declarative data request is translated into a plurality of individual requests. Destination IoT devices associated with the plurality of individual requests are identified. The plurality of individual requests to the destination IoT devices are sent. IoT data is received from the destination IoT devices based on the plurality of individual requests. The declarative data request is responded to based on the received IoT data.

Declarative IoT data control

The disclosed technology is generally directed to communications in an IoT environment. In one example of the technology, a plurality of module twins that respectively correspond to a plurality of modules of edge applications on a plurality of edge devices are stored. The plurality of module twins individually include metadata associated with the corresponding module of the plurality of modules. At least one module of the plurality of modules to be modified by adding a declarative rule is determined, such that the declarative rule causes determining whether an event has been triggered based on a particular event having been determined to have occurred, and, in response to the triggering of the event, communicating the triggering of the event to at least one declarative target. The determined at least one module of the plurality of modules is caused to be modified by adding the declarative rule.

Distribution of events in edge devices

The disclosed technology is generally directed to communications in an IoT environment. In one example of the technology, a plurality of module twins that respectively correspond to a plurality of modules of edge applications on a plurality of edge devices are stored. The plurality of module twins individually include metadata associated with the corresponding module of the plurality of modules. A plurality of services is executed, such that the services of the plurality of services are configured to communicate with the modules of the plurality of modules. At least one service to be executed as a further module on at least one edge device of the plurality of edge devices is determined. The further module is caused to be deployed to the at least one edge device of the plurality of edge devices. Execution of the determined at least one service is ceased.

Hierarchical split of application between cloud and edge

The disclosed technology is generally directed to IoT technology. In one example of the technology, the following actions are performed for each module of a plurality of modules on a first edge device. An identification message that includes information associated with identification of the module is received. The validity of the module is then verified. After the module is verified, based at least in part on the identification message, an IoT support service is selected from a plurality of IoT support services. The module is then caused to be registered with the selected IoT support service. The plurality of modules are compositable together into an application for the first edge device. The modules of the plurality of modules are capable of being used interoperably with other modules without altering the other modules.

Recombining modules for applications using a common provisioning service

A plurality of module twins that respectively correspond to modules of a plurality of modules of an edge application are stored on an edge device, and the modules comprise the edge application. The modules of the plurality of modules are capable of being used interoperably with other modules without altering the other modules. The plurality of module twins individually include metadata associated with the corresponding module of the plurality of modules. Communications are enabled between the modules of the plurality of modules and the IoT support service according to a common security context, and the metadata of each module twin of the plurality of module twins is synchronized based on the module.

Creation of modular applications with corresponding twins in the cloud

A plurality of module twins that respectively correspond to a plurality of modules of edge applications on a plurality of edge devices are stored. The plurality of module twins individually include metadata associated with the corresponding module of the plurality of modules. At least one further module to be deployed is determined. Edge devices of the plurality of edge devices to receive the determined at least one module are identified. The determined at least one further module is caused to be deployed to the identified edge devices. In response to deploying the determined at least one further module, the plurality of module twins is updated by adding, to the plurality of modules twins, modules twins corresponding to the deployed modules.

Deployment of modular applications from the cloud to local devices

The disclosed technology is generally directed to communications in an IoT environment. In one example of the technology, a virtual IoT device is maintained and controlled to act as a representation of a connected device. Communications are received from an IoT support service. The received communications from the IoT support service are acted in response to, including sending communications to the IoT support service in response to the received communications, and changing the virtual IoT device as if the virtual IoT device were the connected device. The connected device is communicated with based on changes in the virtual IoT device.

Cloud management of low-resource devices via an intermediary device

A computer system is provided that includes one or more processors configured to store a plurality of software interfaces that define explicit interaction contracts between network connected devices and software services. The one or more processors are configured to execute a plurality of software services. Each software service defines one or more software interfaces operated on by that software service. The one or more processors are configured to receive, from a network connected device, a list of one or more software interfaces implemented by the network connected device, select one or more software services based on a match between the one or more software interfaces implemented by the network connected device and the one or more software interfaces operated on by the plurality of software services, and process data received from the network connected device using the selected software services.

Modular applications using a common provisioning service

The disclosed technology is generally directed to communications in an IoT environment. For example, such technology is usable in IoT communications. In one example of the technology, one or more types of telemetry data to be collected from a first IoT device is determined. A send frequency corresponding to at least one of the one or more types of telemetry data to be collected from the first IoT device is determined. A first automatic configuration to a configurable device is sent. The configurable device is at least one of the first IoT device or an intermediary device in communication with the first IoT device, such that, upon execution of the first automatic configuration, the configurable device automatically sends telemetry data of the determined one or more types of telemetry data to the IoT solution service at the determined send frequency.

The disclosed technology is generally directed to communications in an IoT environment. In one example of the technology, module twins that respectively correspond to modules of edge applications on a plurality of edge devices are stored. The module twins individually include metadata associated with the corresponding module. Communications between the modules and the IoT support service according to a common security context is enabled. At least one module to be modified is determined. The determined at least one module is caused to be modified.

Cloud modification of modular applications running on local devices

Embodiments are directed to registering a device to receive notifications. In one scenario, a computer system receives a notification registration request from a computing device. The computer system generates a registration secret which includes identification information that uniquely identifies the computing device, and sends the generated registration secret including the information that uniquely identifies the computing device to a notification service. The computer system receives a hash value from the computing device, where the hash value is generated based on the identification information of the generated registration secret. The computer system computes another hash value based on the identification information of the received registration secret to determine whether the second hash value matches the first hash value, and upon determining that the second hash value matches the first hash value, the computer system registers the computing device to receive notifications from the notification service.
