A method, apparatus, and computer program monitor a user's heart activity during a physical exercise. A heart activity measurement signal representing the user's heart activity is acquired and a phase component of the heart activity measurement signal is monitored. On the basis of the monitoring of the phase component, one or more actions are carried out.

Heart activity monitoring during physical exercise

A wearable heart activity sensor device includes a substrate of optically transparent material arranged to face a skin of a user when the sensor device is worn by the user, at least one light emitting diode, LED, arranged on the substrate and arranged to emit light through the substrate, at least one photo sensor arranged on the substrate as spatially separated from the at least one LED and arranged to absorb light through the substrate, wherein the at least one LED and the at least one photo sensor are included in a photoplethysmogram sensor of the heart activity sensor device, and an overmold of thermoplastic material covering the at least one light emitting diode, the at least one photo sensor and a space between the at least one light emitting diode and the at least one photo sensor.

Wearable heart activity sensor device

There is provided a wearable device for measuring cardiac activity of a user, the wearable device comprising: an optical cardiac activity sensor unit configured to be placed in contact with a measurement area and to enable cardiac activity measurement of the user to obtain a cardiac activity signal; a plurality of electrodes configured to enable bioimpedance measurement on the measurement area to obtain a bioimpedance signal; a detector unit for detecting changes in the bioimpedance signal; and a reducer unit for reducing a motion artefact effect on the cardiac activity signal based on the detected changes in the bioimpedance signal.

Enhancing optical cardiac activity measurement

A computer-implemented method estimates sleep quality of a user. A related computer system, a computer program product, and a data structure are also described. The method includes receiving measurement data measured by at least one sensor device during a time interval; detecting from the measurement data one or more restless sleep signal patterns indicating a restless sleep interval longer than a first threshold duration and computing a number of the detected one or more restless sleep signal patterns; detecting, from the measurement data, one or more continuous sleep intervals not including any one of the one or more restless sleep signal patterns within a time interval longer than a second threshold duration and computing a total length of the one or more continuous sleep intervals; computing a sleep quality metric as a function of the number of the detected one or more restless sleep signal patterns and the total length of the detected one or more continuous sleep intervals, wherein the sleep quality metric indicates a quality of the user's sleep during the time interval; and outputting the sleep quality metric.

Measuring and estimating sleep quality

An apparatus is suitable for measuring a photoplethysmogram (PPG). A photoplethysmographic sensor apparatus may include a casing defining a surface, a plurality of optical emitters configured to emit radiation extending from the surface, at least one photo sensor configured to capture radiation emitted by at least a subset of the plurality of optical emitters. At least a first measurement configuration and a second configuration is defined by the plurality of optical emitters and the at least one photo sensor such that the first and the second measurement configuration provide different measurement channels by including at least partially different sets of at least one optical emitter and at least one photo sensor. The first and second measurement configurations define different spatial configurations, each of which is line symmetric with respect to an imaginary line along the surface.

Photoplethysmographic sensor configuration

A heart activity sensor structure includes a flexible substrate being substantially non-conductive, at least two electrodes printed on one side of the flexible substrate and configured to be placed against a skin of a user in order to measure biometric signals related to heart activity, and an electrostatic discharge shield printed on opposite side the flexible textile substrate, compared to the printing of the at least two electrodes, for protecting the at least two electrodes from static electricity.

Heart activity sensor structure

An apparatus includes: a first layer including first and second measurement electrodes disposed at a distance from one another, wherein the first and second measurement electrodes are skin electrodes that measure an electric physiological property from a skin; and a second layer disposed on top of the first layer including first and a second shielding elements that are electrically conductive and arranged to cover at least partially both the first and second measurement electrodes to protect the first and second measurement electrode against electromagnetic interference. Each of the shielding elements are connected to a skin electrode. EMI protection for physiological measurements

A solution for estimating motion of a user is disclosed. A method comprises: acquiring satellite positioning data received with a satellite positioning receiver attached to a human body and indicating a location of the satellite positioning receiver; extracting, from the satellite positioning data, local motion data representing local motion of the satellite positioning receiver with respect to a reference point and overall motion data representing the motion of the reference point, wherein the reference point is included in a framework of the human body; and determining, from the local motion data, a local motion trajectory of a part of a human body to which the satellite positioning receiver is attached with respect to the reference point.

Estimating local motion of physical exercise

A heart activity sensor structure includes a flexible textile substrate, and at least two electrodes with an electric insulation between each of the at least two electrodes. The at least two electrodes are applied on one side of the flexible textile substrate and configured to be placed against a skin of an exerciser in order to measure biosignals related to heart activity. The heart activity sensor also includes an electrostatic discharge shield applied on one side of the flexible textile substrate for protecting the at least two electrodes from static electricity.

There is provided a wearable item configured to be placed at least partially against a skin of a person; and an optically sensitive detector mounted to the wearable item and configured to detect optical signals reflected from the skin of the person, wherein the detected optical signals represent a relative motion between the wearable item and the skin of the person and wherein the optically sensitive detector is mounted to the wearable item such that there is a predetermined space between the optically sensitive detector and the skin of the person.

Optical detection of motion effects

The present document discloses an apparatus comprising at least one processor and at least one memory including a computer program code. The at least one memory and the computer program code are configured, with the at least one processor, to cause the apparatus to: trigger a start of a physical exercise; in response to said triggering, start a measurement mode in which the apparatus receives measurement data of the physical exercise wirelessly from at least one sensor device and analyzes the received measurement data; detect a predetermined event in the received measurement data during the physical exercise; and in response to detecting said predetermined event, cause transmission of a reconfiguration message to at least one of the at least one sensor device to reconfigure at least one parameter of said at least one of the at least one sensor device.

Reconfigurable sensor devices monitoring physical exercise

An apparatus includes a first signal line configured to couple signals from a first skin electrode to a first input of a differential amplifier comprised as a front-stage in a signal detection circuitry for measurement of biometric signals sensed by the first skin electrode; a second signal line configured to couple signals from a second skin electrode, different from the first skin electrode, to a second input of the differential amplifier of the signal detection circuitry for measurement of biometric signals sensed by the second skin electrode; and an impedance circuitry coupled between the first signal line and the second signal line in order to tune input impedance of the differential amplifier. Impedance of the impedance circuitry is higher on a first frequency band covering a frequency band of the measured biometric signals than on a second frequency band not covering the frequency band of the measured biometric signals.

Interference mitigation circuitry for biometric measurements

Interference mitigation in biometric measurements

The present invention relates to a lineariser for use with an amplifier and to a method of linearising an amplifier. The lineariser comprises an input to receive an input signal and an output for outputting an adjusted signal. A gain variations adjustment means are provided for adjusting amplitude dependent gain variations of the signal. A phase variations adjustment means are provided for adjusting amplitude dependent phase variations of the signal. Said gain and phase variations adjustment means are adapted to be individually adjustable elements on the signal path between said input and output. A variable gain amplifier is provided on the signal path between the gain variations adjustment means and phase variations adjustment means. The adjusted signal is then input to said amplifier.
