An ultraviolet-curable coating composition adapted for the buffer coating of optical glass fiber consists essentially of an acrylate-capped polyurethane in admixture with at least about 25% of its weight of liquid monoethylenically unsaturated monomer having a low glass transition temperature below about 0.degree. C. and at least about 3% of N-vinyl pyrrolidone based on the weight of the low glass transition temperature monomer. The acrylate-capped polyurethane is based on a generally linear polyurethane which is the reaction product of organic diisocyanate with a stoichiometric deficiency of a modified diol which is the diester reaction product of polyoxytetramethylene glycol having a molecular weight of from about 200 to about 2000 with a stoichiometric deficiency of an ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid or substitution product thereof, especially fumaric acid, to provide a higher molecular weight polyoxytetramethylene glycol which includes ester groups and copolymerizable ethylenic unsaturation which minimize crystallinity problems.

An ultraviolet-curable coating composition adapted for the buffer coating of optical glass fiber consists essentially of an acrylate-capped polyurethane in admixture with at least about 25% of its weight of liquid monoethylenically unsaturated monomer having a low glass transition temperature below about 0.degree. C. The acrylate-capped polyurethane is based on a generally linear polyurethane which is the reaction product of organic diisocyanate with a stoichiometric deficiency of a modified diol, this modified diol being the diester reaction product of polyoxytetramethylene glycol having a molecular weight of from about 200 to about 2000 with a stoichiometric deficiency of a long chain ester-forming hydrocarbon-substituted dicarboxylic acid or ester-forming substitution product thereof. This provides a higher molecular weight polyoxytetramethylene glycol which includes ester groups and a long chain hydrocarbon substituent to improve microbending resistance while taking advantage of the better water resistance provided by the polyoxytetramethylene glycol component.

A method of forming an aqueous emulsion laminating adhesive having an extended pot life is disclosed in which monoethylenically unsaturated monomers are polymerized to form a copolymer having a glass transition temperature in the range of about -10.degree. C. to about -50.degree. C. The polymerization is carried out in aqueous emulsion in the presence of emulsified epoxy resin in an amount of from about 2% to about 60%, based on the weight of the monomers which are copolymerized. An aqueous emulsion of amine-functional resin is then mixed into aqueous emulsion containing copolymer and epoxy resin formed by the aqueous emulsion copolymerization to provide a weight ratio of amino hydrogen atoms to oxirane groups of from about 0.1 to about 1.0.

Optical fibers are coated with a radiation-curable liquid, polyethylenically unsaturated coating composition consisting essentially of an organic polysiloxane having from 2 to 6 reactive side chains each of which carry a functional group providing one reactive site which has been reached to provide a single radiation-curable monoethylenically unsaturated side chain. There are about one such side chain for every 500 to 5,000 units of molecular weight. This provides a prime coating which has a modulus of elasticity at room temperature and at -60.degree. C. below 3000.

Low temperature-flexible radiation-curable unsaturated polysiloxane

A liquid composition for development of latent electrostatic images formed on an offset master for use in the production of multiple copies by offset duplication, in which the developer composition is formulated to contain a fatty acid amine, aromatic amine, heterocyclic amine or other aliphatic amine containing from 3 to 18 carbon atoms in the aliphatic group to obviate the undesirable effects from treatment of the imaged surface with a conversion solution.

Liquid developer for electrophotographic offset masters

A liquid developer for producing an ink receptive, water repellent, oleophilic image suitable for use in the production of multiple copies by lithographic technique wherein the toner employed in the developer composition has precipitated thereon the polyvinyl acetate binder component.
