A method includes providing a powdered high entropy alloy and forming the powdered high entropy alloy into a seal body with a heat source. The seal body extends between a leading edge and a trailing edge and includes a first component contact surface adjacent the leading edge and a second component contact surface adjacent the trailing edge. The seal body is operable at temperatures in excess of 700° C.

Seals and methods of making seals

A seal assembly for a gas turbine engine may include a seal body coupled to an engine static structure of the gas turbine engine and a seal seat insert coupled to a radially extending portion of a shaft of the gas turbine engine. The seal body may be generally configured to be biased into contact with the seal seat insert to provide a sealing pressure between the seal body and the seal seat insert. In various embodiments, the seal seat insert is made from a ceramic material or a ceramic matrix composite.

The coating is a chromium carbide-nickel chromium composition constituting between about 75% and about 85% by weight chromium carbide and between about 15% and about 25% by weight nickel chromium. The chromium carbide-nickel chromium composition is applied onto the surface by high velocity oxy-fuel spraying (HVOF).
