A vehicular adapter () provides an interface to accommodate a variety of contacts located on different surfaces of a portable radio (). The vehicular adapter includes a rotating pocket (), pivot arms () and a locking mechanism (). The rotating pocket () provides a first set of contacts (). One pivot arm () provides an antenna probe () on one surface of the vehicular adapter while another pivot arm () provides connector side contacts () to a side surface of the vehicular adapter. The pivot arms () pivot in response to the rotating pocket () being rotated thereby moving their respective contacts into position for mating with the portable radio ().

A connector assembly is provided for a portable device. The connector assembly includes a U-shaped connector head with a connector extending from a first end of the U-shaped connector head and a stress relief overmold extending from a second end of the U-shaped connector head, said stress relief overmold having a pair of annular grooves disposed along a length of the stress relief overmold transverse to the extension of the overmold and a cradle mechanically coupled to the portable device that engages the pair of grooves to retain the connector head in a relatively fixed relationship with respect to the portable device.

A ruggedized liquid crystal display (LCD) is described having a LCD sandwich (30, 31). A layer of adhesive material (35), such as adhesive coated polyester film, extends continuously across a surface (e.g. the top surface) of the LCD sandwich. A layer of rigid transparent material (e.g. glass) is mounted facing the LCD sandwich and is bonded to the LCD sandwich by the layer of adhesive material.
