An optical transceiver comprising: an optical transmitter having plurality of light sources controllable to generate optical signals in different optical channels, an output aperture, an optical multiplexer that multiplexes optical signals generated by the light sources and transmits them to exit the transceiver from the output aperture; an optical receiver having a plurality of optical sensors, an input aperture for receiving optical signals in a plurality of optical channels, a demultiplexer that demultiplexes signals received at the input aperture, and directs signals received in different channels to different optical sensors of the plurality of optical sensors; and a QSFP compliant housing that houses the transmitter and receiver.

Opto-electronic transceiver having housing with small form factor

A planar lightwave circuit (PLC) is disclosed having fixed thereto a coupling tube for coupling an optical fiber. The PLC comprises a planar optical substrate having in it an optical waveguide having an optical aperture located on an edge surface of the optical substrate and a tube formed having a lumen dimensioned to receive an optical fiber ferrule and an edge surface fixed to the substrate edge surface so that a cross section of the lumen at the edge surface is aligned with the optical aperture.

Planar lightwave circuit and a method for its manufacture

A system and method for fabricating an electro-optical hybrid module (). The electro-optical hybrid module () may comprise an electro-optical component, an electronic component (), a planar light wave circuit (PLC) embedded with at least an optical waveguide (). The electro-optical component may transmit or receive energy through a micro-folding mirror () while the electronic component may amplify and transfer an electric signal to the electro-optical component. The planar light wave circuit may typically provide an opto-electronic signal communication path via the plurality of optical waveguides that may be embedded in the planar light wave circuit.
