The present invention generally relates to microfluidic droplets and, including forming gels within microfluidic droplets. In some aspects, a fluid containing agarose or other gel precursors is transported into a microfluidic droplet, and caused to harden within the droplet, e.g., to form a gel particle contained within the microfluidic droplet. Surprisingly, a discrete gel particle may be formed even if the fluid containing the agarose or other gel precursor, and the fluid contained within the microfluidic droplet, are substantially immiscible. Other aspects of the present invention are generally directed to techniques for making or using such gels within microfluidic droplets, kits containing such gels within microfluidic droplets, or the like.

Formation of colloids or gels within droplets

A drug delivery system (DDS) including a hydrophobic porous scaffold and a hydrogel having a hydrophilic polymer and one or more biologic drugs provides sustained zero-order release of the one or more biologic drugs. Also provided herein are methods of making and using a DDS including a hydrophobic porous scaffold and a hydrogel having a hydrophilic polymer and one or more biologic drugs.

Drug delivery system and methods of use

The present disclosure relates to keratoprosthesis apparatuses and methods of manufacturing keratoprosthesis apparatuses. The keratoprosthesis apparatus includes a circular backplate including a central aperture extending through the backplate from a face of the backplate to a posterior surface of the backplate. The circular backplate has a dome shape and comprises a plurality of spaced apart elongated slits extending radially outwardly from a central portion of the backplate. The plurality of spaced apart elongated slits surround the central aperture and extending through the backplate from the face of the backplate to the posterior of the backplate.

Keratoprosthesis apparatuses, systems, and methods

The disclosure includes devices and methods for controlling fluid flow. The devices include a tube configured to receive fluid from a fluid source; and a valve for controlling fluid flow through the tube, the valve responsive to fluid pressure in the tube. The valve includes a first magnet outside the tube at a fixed first distance from the tube and a second magnet outside the tube substantially opposite the first magnet and at a second distance from the tube, the second distance greater than the first distance. The valve includes a ferromagnetic fluid within the tube between the first magnet and the second magnet and held in position by a magnetic field generated by the first magnet. The amount of ferromagnetic fluid is sufficient to seal the tube when the fluid pressure is below a threshold pressure set by the second distance between the second magnet and the tube.
