This invention relates to a method of making an incorporated photographic amide comprising a) continuously combining an amine capable of forming an incorporated photographic amide, an acid chloride, one or more acid-absorbing reagents, and one or more water-immiscible solvents to continuously form a reaction mixture; b) continuously reacting the amine and acid chloride to form an incorporated photographic amide; and c) separating the incorporated photographic amide from the reaction mixture.

Continuous preparation of incorporated photographic amides

Disclosed is a carbonylation process for the manufacture of acetic anhydride wherein the utilization of carbon monoxide is increased. The process involves the liquid phase manufacture of acetic anhydride by contacting a mixture of (i) a reactant compound selected from methyl acetate, dimethyl ether or a mixture thereof, (ii) methyl iodide, (iii) catalyst components comprising rhodium and one or more promoters, and (iv) dissolved carbon monoxide in a carbonylation zone in which carbon monoxide is not fed below the surface of the mixture in a manner to increase the concentration of carbon monoxide in the liquid reaction mixture.

Process for the manufacture of acetic anhydride

Disclosed is a process for making vinyl carboxylate esters such as vinyl acetate and vinyl propionate, by a reactive distillation process comprising a reaction zone wherein a vinyl carboxylate ester is formed from a carbonyl compound selected from aliphatic aldehydes and ketones and an anhydride of an aliphatic carboxylic acid and a distillation zone from which the vinyl carboxylate ester is recovered and substantially separated from other compounds contained within the column. The process requires significantly less equipment than known, analogous processes and thus the cost of constructing a plant for the operation of the present process is substantially reduced.
