A system and method for using an embedded microprocessor in an RF amplifier. The use of an embedded microprocessor avoids manual calibration. The Microprocessor collects initial amplifier performance data based on a set of parameters and calculates the needed corrections. The microprocessor can change levels within the circuit to achieve those operating points. The embedded microprocessor sets voltage levels with internal circuitry and communicates this information externally through a serial communication port, or the like, to allow a user to communicate with and look at the amplifier data and readjust the internal bias levels, as needed. Thus, the internal microprocessor provides for calibration, self-testing, and monitoring of the RF amplifier and also functions as an in situ bias and temperature compensation controller for use in the presence of temperature variation and provides bias sequencing control to protect against improper applied timing of voltage inputs to the amplifier.

Low swap circuit card design for RF power amplifiers

A system and method for detecting the trajectory of a projectile is presented. One system includes a flash detection sensor, an acoustic sensor, an optical sensor and a processor logic mounted on a vehicle. The flash detection sensor detects a flash of a projectile being launched. The acoustic sensor detects when a blast wave associated with the firing of the projectile reaches the vehicle. The optical sensor takes two or more images of the same projectile. The images are typically not in the visible light spectrum. The processor logic calculates a trajectory of the projectile based on the images and data collected by the acoustic sensor associated with the blast wave. The processor logic may generate a warning signal to warn an operator of the vehicle about the projectile.

Acoustic hostile fire indicator

A system and method for detecting at least one material under test (MUT) is presented. A Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance (NQR) measurement system includes a waveform generator configured to generate a continuous wave (CW) input signal comprising one or more frequencies. An RF shielded chamber receives the at least one MUT that is carried by a person walking through the chamber. A probe within the chamber illuminates the MUT with the CW signal and simultaneously receives possible NQR emissions from the at least one MUT. A bridge circuit is utilized to cancel the strong excitation CW signal from the generator which would otherwise mask the weak NQR emissions from the MUT that are received and detected by the measurement system. A detector can then detect the MUT based, at least in part, on the resonance signal.

Nuclear quadrupole resonance system

A tag operates in an environment where transmitted interrogators are not possible or desired. High-efficiency diode rectifiers and low-power oscillators are used in combination with an energy storage element and hysteretic switch. The combination of multi-diode rectifier, low power tunnel diode oscillator, energy storage element and hysteretic switch allow for nanowatt levels of received RF power to be stored to produce micro-watts of RF transmit power. The device trickle charges off of ambient RF radiation until enough energy is stored for transmission.

In a CW radar system for detecting motion behind a wall involving modulation of the radar transmission, means are provided to interrupt the CW wave when motion is detected and to use the same radar transmitter to transmit a serial digital message to a remote monitoring receiver. The encoding can include a receiver wakeup message to turn on the receiver only when motion has been detected. In one embodiment, a microprocessor is used to detect when motion exists behind a wall and to provide a tailorable message to modulate the radar's transmitter in the period when the CW signal from the radar is turned off after motion detection.

A histogram of the swath overlaps is used to generate a display of the path of the moving object or individual.

Through the wall ranging with triangulation using multiple spaced apart radars

A CW radar () is used to detect motion of objects () behind a wall () by projecting a radar beam through the wall and by measuring the returns from the objects behind the wall, with a change in the phase difference between the transmitted and received CW signals providing an indication of motion behind the wall and thus the presence of an individual.

Method and apparatus for through-the-wall motion detection using CW radar

A multi-tone CW radar () is used to project signals from an antenna () and to receive returns with the same antenna. The phase differences between the outgoing signals and the returns are analyzed to determine the existence of motion and the range to a moving object (). A model is made which has range as its major parameter. A waveform associated with the phase difference between outgoing signals and returns for one of the tones is compared to templates produced by the model to determine which has a range that most closely matches. By varying the range parameters, when a match is detected the range to the object can be obtained even if its motion is pseudorandom. If the range is measured with multiple units it is possible to measure the location of the object. This can be done assuming a grid and algorithmically combining the ranges from the units.

Multiple frequency through-the-wall motion detection and ranging using a difference-based estimation technique

E-field sensors are used to establish a protection zone around a vehicle so as to detect the presence of objects within the protection zone, be they other vehicles or individuals. In one embodiment the direction to the intruding object is established by virtue of the use of pairs of E-field sensors. In a further embodiment the range of the E-field sensors determines the limited protection zone around the vehicle. Because of the limited protection zone, false alarms are greatly reduced.

Use of E-field sensors for situation awareness/collision avoidance

A robust, easily deployable, covert, passive intrusion detection system uses one or more E-field sensors to detect the presence of a moving individual and to provide an indication of the presence of the individual adjacent the sensor based on E-field distortion produced by the individual. Single-ended and differential E-field sensors with noise canceling and a guarding circuit provide sufficient sensitivity, with filtering from 0.5 Hz to 8.0 Hz selecting only human intruders. Either visible or invisible flashing light sources at the sensor indicate the presence of a moving individual at the sensor, thus to provide intruder location without the necessity of providing a geolocation system.

Method and apparatus for detecting individuals using electrical field sensors

Techniques that provide relatively low cost and complexity remote sensing capability are disclosed. The sensors can be easily deployed and monitored by a single operator, with minimal opportunity for human error, and without the need for a visual display. During deployment, the sensor is adapted to record a message including a verbal description of the location. Other useful information, such as the operator's name and sensor type may also be included. The voice locator message is transmitted in response to the sensor triggering, thereby allowing the operator to hear the location of the triggered sensor. Additional device functionality may include sensor signal analysis (e.g., confidence testing) and a power conservation. The devices have numerous applications (e.g., military and SWAT operations), and can be adapted to detect intrusion, perimeter breach, movement, vehicles, and other detectable events.

Remote sensor with voice locator message

The invention is a detection system and in one embodiment uses inexpensive, miniaturized sensors for detecting electric field (E-field) disturbances. Such sensors are easily and covertly deployable and have low power consumption. The devices may incorporate visual or audio alerts and can include communications hardware for transmitting data for further processing of the electrostatic events.

Electric field sensor

A low cost diagnostic system for testing the airborne static discharge systems and the grounding systems for aircraft. The present invention is a passive electrostatic detection scheme which in one embodiment is an array of inexpensive, miniaturized sensors for measuring the detected E-field disturbances from aircraft. The measurements are taken on the runway upon arrival and indicate whether the aircraft had an appreciable accumulated charge indicating a failure of the electrostatic discharge system. The system further verifies that the ground discharge devices are properly working and any charge is dissipated upon landing. In one embodiment the measurement information is transmitted to a central location where the aircraft and the measurement data are matched and maintenance is scheduled for aircraft having high levels of electrostatic charge.
