There are described novel pyrazole compounds represented by the formula ##STR1## wherein Y is a silver halide developing substituent or a precursor thereof; R is --OH, --NH.sub.2 or --NHSO.sub.2 --R.sub.1 ; R.sub.1 is alkyl having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms or phenyl; and m and n are the same or different and each is an integer of from 1 to 6. The pyrazole compounds are useful as intermediates in the preparation of azo and azomethine dye developers or as silver halide developing agents.

Novel pyrazole compounds having silver halide development groups

There are described novel azo and azomethine dye developers which include a pyrazolone moiety having two silver halide developing groups. In one embodiment the dye developers are metal complexed. The dye developer compounds are useful in photographic products and processes.

Azo and azomethine dye developers

Chrome-complexed hexadentate dyes which include an ortho, ortho-dihydroxy azo or azomethine dye moiety, a colorless ligand which is a radical of an iminodiacetic acid and a linkage connecting the ligand to the dye moiety. In one embodiment the dyes include a photographically useful group and are also useful in photographic applications.

Chrome complexed azo or azomethine hexadentate dyes

There are described novel compounds which include a silver halide developing function, a colorless ligand which is a radical of an iminodiacetic acid and a radical containing an onium group. The compounds are useful in photography as silver halide developing agents and also may be complexed with metals to form dye developers.

Color is synthesized by dispersing a beam of light to form a spectrum, effectively blocking a portion of the spectrum with a mask, and recombining the light energies of the unblocked portion(s) of the spectrum to synthesize the color.

There are described novel magenta 1:1 chrome-complexed dye developers which are particularly useful in photographic products and processes. These novel magenta dye developers are ionic salts which include a cation and a colorless ligand which is a radical of an iminodiacetic acid.

Chrome complexed magenta dye developers

There are described novel magenta chrome complexed dye developers which are particularly useful in photographic products and processes. These novel magenta dye developers are zwitterionic compounds which include an onium salt such as a quaternary ammonium salt and a colorless ligand which is a radical of an iminodiacetic acid.

There are described novel compounds which are chrome-complexed dyes and which include an ortho, ortho' dihydroxyazo dye moiety, an onium salt and a ligand which is a radical of an iminodiacetic acid.

Novel azo dyes

Novel yellow 2:1 azo-azo or azo-azomethine chrome complexed dye developer particularly useful in diffusion transfer photographic products and processes are presented by this invention. The novel 2:1 chrome complexed dye developers have the following structure: ##STR1## where each A is a phenyl radical; each B is a phenyl or nitrogen containing heterocyclic radical; Y is a silver halide developing substituent; each n is 0 or 1 but at least one n must be 1; R is N or CH; R.sup.1 is ##STR2## if R is N but R.sup.1 is --O-- if R is CH and X is a cation.

Yellow 2:1 azo-azo or azo-azomethine chrome complexed dye developers

Novel yellow ortho, ortho' dihydroxy azomethine dyes and metal complexes of such dyes which are particularly useful in photographic products and processes are presented by this invention. The novel yellow ortho, ortho' dihydrozy azomethine dyes have the following structural formula: ##STR1## where n' is the integer 1-8 and m' is the integer 1 or 2.

Novel yellow ortho carboxy, ortho' hydroxy azo dyes having a silver halide developing capability and conforming to the formula: ##STR1## where X' is hydrogen, hydroxy, carboxy or any substituent that does not adversely affect the solubility of thecompound of said formula in an aqueous alkaline photographic processing composition and does not render the oxidized form of the compound of said formula mobile in such processing composition; R.sup.5 is hydrogen, hydroxyl, alkyl having from 1-6 carbon atoms or ##STR2## having from 1-6 carbon atoms); R.sup.6 is hydrogen or alkyl; each R.sup.7 is hydrogen or a protective group which can be removed to provide a dihydroxyphenyl silver halide developing substituent and --alkylene-- has from 1-6 carbon atoms.

Novel benzaldehydes of the formula: ##STR1## Where n.sup.1 is the integer 1-8 and each OR.sup.1 group is hydroxy or a protective group which can be converted or removed to provide the dihydroxyphenyl moiety. The benzaldehydes are particularly useful as intermediates in the preparation of yellow azomethine dye developers.
