The present invention provides a printing assembly which includes a printing drum such as an impression drum, a pair of eccentric bearings between and on which the drum is mounted for rotation, a pair of self aligning bearings on which the eccentric bearings are supported, and a pair of frameless motors directly connected to the eccentric bearings in order to effect the rotation thereof through closed loop feedback control, in order to facilitate the automatic and accurate control of pressure level and uniformity along the nip of a printing press.

In one embodiment, a guide for installing a photoconductive film on to a photo imaging plate includes a movable channel located near the photo imaging plate, for example in a digital printing press. The channel has a bed and a pair of sidewalls extending parallel to one another along opposite sides of the bed such that the lateral movement and skew of a photoconductive film lying on the bed is constrained by the sidewalls. The channel movable between a first position in which an open end of the channel is away from the photo imaging plate and a second position in which the open end of the channel is immediately adjacent to and aligned with the photo imaging plate for installing a photoconductive film on to the photo imaging plate.

Sheet processing

A gripper system for controlling the loading and unloading of sheets on a cylindrical sheet guide. The gripper system comprises one or more grippers, which are positioned at an outer edge of the cylindrical sheet guide. Each gripper is coupled to a cam follower. The gripper system further comprises a cam, which is configured for affecting the elevation of the gripper(s) by moving the cam follower(s), and a servomotor, which is adapted for steering the cam. A cam-gripper controller is provided for controlling the servomotor according to a current printing profile.
