The transceiver is configured to transmit the calculated CSI on an uplink (UL) channel, where the CSI includes N segments and is transmitted in one slot, where N>1. A first of the N segments includes a rank indicator (RI) and at least one other CSI parameter. A base station (BS) includes a processor configured to generate configuration information for CSI reporting and a transceiver configured to transmit, to a UE, the configuration information via a downlink (DL) channel; and receive, from the UE, a CSI report calculated in accordance with the configuration information on an uplink UL channel.
