A device for diagnosing an exhaust gas sensor, in particular a linear oxygen probe, for an internal combustion engine. A diagnostic unit is configured to control a first and a second current source in a coordinated manner in order to generate a first and a second current. Each of the currents has a predefined polarity sign, and is designed to determine the first and/or second and/or third voltages applied at a first and/or second and/or third terminal when first and second currents flow and put the amounts of the voltages in relation to the coordinated currents such that line interruptions and/or short circuits can be detected at the first and/or second and/or third terminal.

Device and method for diagnosing an exhaust gas sensor

An electrochemical gas sensor is provided for a motor vehicle. The gas sensor contains a digital controller and a detection circuit. The digital controller captures, by a feedback input, a value of the voltage applied to the inside of the gas sensor cell. The output of the digital controller provides a control value for the current flowing in the gas sensor cell. The detection circuit is used to detect the properties of the gas sensor cell and to adjust the dynamic control properties of the digital controller corresponding to the properties of the gas sensor cell.

A circuit arrangement for operating a sensor comprises a control circuit for electrically supplying the sensor via a plurality of connecting lines and/or at least to detect one electrical output signal of the sensor in which case one of the connecting lines is routed via one actuatable switching element that is suitable for interrupting this line, and to detect the potential on at least one of the connecting lines and should an abnormal potential be detected on this connecting line, to actuate the switching element for interrupting the connecting line. Furthermore, one actuatable further switching element is provided for connecting a pair of connecting lines and the circuit arrangement is designed in such a way that it can actuate the connection of these connecting lines, should an abnormal potential of this further switching element be detected, to break down a potential difference between connections of the sensor.

An integrated circuit configuration has both an ignition resistor and a control circuit that controls a current flow through the ignition resistor. A region of a semiconductor layer that electrically connects the integrated components is used as the ignition resistor.
