Packaging unit

An absorbent article, such as a sanitary napkin, a panty liner, or a protector from female incontinence, is intended for wear in the crotch region of the wearer inside her underclothes. The article is generally elongate in shape and has two long sides, two short sides, two end-portions, a center portion disposed between the end-portions, a liquid-permeable casing sheet intended to lie proximal to the wearer's body in use, a liquid-impermeable casing sheet intended to lie distal from the wearer's body in use, and between the layers in a direction from the liquid-permeable casing sheet and towards the liquid-impermeable casing sheet a drainage layer, an absorption layer, and a hump-forming element which together with the drainage layer and the absorption layer forms a hump which projects out from the plane of the napkin on that side of the napkin which is intended to lie proximal to the wearer in use. At least one cut is made through the drainage layer and the absorption layer, and the hump-forming element is protruded up through the layers.

The product has two long sides, two short sides, two end parts, a center part situated between the end parts and an absorption body. The present invention relates to an absorbent body which is intended to form the absorbent element in an absorbent article, such as a diaper, an incontinence guard or a sanitary napkin, and includes a first absorbent layer which, in use, is intended to face towards the wearer, and a second absorbent layer which is intended, in use, to face away from the wearer. According to the invention, the absorbent body includes at least two mutually different cellulose fluffs, wherein the major part of the fibre structure of the first absorbent layer is comprised of a first type of cellulose fluff having low liquid-spreading ability and a critical bulk which exceeds 8 cm.sup.3 /g at 2.5 kPa, while the major part of the fibre structure of the second absorbent layer is comprised of a different type of cellulose fluff having a critical bulk beneath 8 cm.sup.3 /g at 2.5 kPa and a higher liquid-spreading ability than the cellulose fluff in the first absorbent layer. The second absorbent layer will therefore be highly capable of draining liquid from the first absorbent layer. The second absorbent layer includes superabsorbent material which is admixed generally uniformly in the cellulose fluff within at least one area of the layer.

A method of producing an absorbent structure in an absorbent article includes the steps of compressing an air laid web of cellulose fibers into a dry-formed sheet having a first density of between 0.2-1.0 g/cm.sup.2 and mechanically softening the compressed sheet by a noncutting method to a second density, which is lower than the first density, whereby the sheet is delaminated so as to form a plurality of partially separated thin fiber layers, each of which layers exhibits a density which corresponds to the first density.
