A system and method for frequency reuse for wireless point-to-point backhaul. Frequency reuse is enabled through the cancellation of interfering signals generated by interference sources. In one embodiment, a conventional dish antenna is complemented with one or more additional auxiliary antennas (e.g., isotropic). The one or more additional auxiliary antennas enable cancellation of interfering signals whose direction of arrival (DOA) is off the dish antenna's bore-sight.

System and method for frequency reuse for wireless point-to-point backhaul

An all outdoor unit communication system, for performing cross polarization interference cancellation, is provided. The system includes a first outdoor unit (ODU) configured to receive a first directionally polarized signal, a first RF module configured to convert the first directionally polarized signal into a first in-phase (I) component and a first quadrature (Q) component, and a first modem configured to up-convert the first I and Q components from baseband into a first directionally polarized intermediate frequency (IF) signal. The system being configured to communicate, via an interconnect coupled to the first ODU, a second directionally polarized IF signal to the first ODU, and where the first modem is further configured to utilize the second directionally polarized IF signal to cancel out at least a portion of a first cross-polarization leakage at the first ODU.

Communication system having cross polarization interference cancellation (XPIC)

Geometrical closed loop line of sight (LOS) multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO). Singular value decomposition (SVD) processing for a LOS communication channel into respective channel matrices, and appropriate processing of signals within transmitter and/or receiver communication devices operate to support very high data throughput, including approaching or converging to the Shannon limit channel capacity (e.g., bits/sec/Hz). Certain communication systems operate with multi-antenna communication devices, and sometimes, the optimal spacing between those respective antennae cannot be achieved. Appropriate processing can recover most, if not all, of any performance degradation as may be incurred by a deviation from the perfectly optimal spacing between those respective antennae. In addition, any deleterious effects of phase noise among the antennae may be mitigated by driving the antennae using a common or singular local oscillator, or tracking the communication channel (e.g., channel estimation, tracking, etc.) and updating the respective SVD channel matrices based upon such phase noise.

The system includes a first outdoor unit (ODU) configured to receive a horizontally polarized signal, a first RF module configured to convert the horizontally polarized signal into a first in-phase (I) component and a first quadrature (Q) component, and a first modem configured to up-convert the first I and Q components from baseband into a horizontally polarized intermediate frequency (IF) signal. The system also includes a second ODU configured to receive a vertically polarized signal, a second RF module configured to convert the vertically polarized signal into a second I component and a second Q component, and a second modem configured to up-convert the second I and Q components from baseband into a vertically polarized IF signal. The system is configured to share, via an interconnect, the polarized IF signals between the first and second ODUs.

A DSL communication system and a method for configuring a DSL communication system. The method includes training at least one anchor DSL modem transmitter to transmit information over at least one anchor line at an anchor bit rate that is determined based on an allowable tolerable noise level and a minimum allowable signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) margin; training one or more other DSL modem transmitter to transmit information over one or more other line at a bit rate that is determined by a current noise level and a target SNR margin, wherein the target SNR margin is higher than the minimum allowable SNR margin; and transmitting information by at least one trained DSL modem transmitter to at least one DSL modem receiver.
