A projection screen element is described that includes a substrate and a diffusion coating disposed on the substrate. The diffusion coating includes a matrix having a first index of refraction and a plurality of particles having a second index of refraction disposed within the matrix. The substrate may be translucent for use as a rear projection screen element or reflective for use as a front projection screen element. A method of making a projection screen element also is described.

Diffuser-coated projection screen element and method of manufacture

Apparatus for continuously micro-embossing a seamless precision optical pattern onto a moving substrate without the use of an intermediate layer, comprising an energy source, such as a laser, along with reduction optics, a mask and a moving substrate. The moving substrate provides both precision linear and rotational movement which motion is coupled with the laser projection imaging episode. Etched patterns can therefor be continuously and precisely ablated in the substrate to substantially cover the entire surface to uniquely micro-emboss therein a seamless precision optical image.

Seamless holographic transfer using laser generated optical effect patterns

Thermally-imageable articles which allow verification of the genuineness of the articles, and methods of producing such articles are disclosed. The thermally-imageable articles includes a substrate and a light transmissive/reflective platy pigment in or on one or both surfaces of the article. The article may be analyzed or inspected to determine the presence and nature of the platy pigment and accordingly, the authenticity of the article. When viewed from different incident angles, the pigment produces a unique pearlescent, color shift, or iridescent type effect.

Verification methods employing thermally--imageable substrates

A process for producing a light diffusing sheet material, and materials made therefrom. A dispersion of light scattering optically clear particles in an optically clear matrix during mixing of the constituent components of the diffuser in the liquid phase and then forming a film or sheet by, e.g., extrusion or casting, from which a screen suitable for displaying images projected thereupon may be constructed. The respective light dispersing and matrix components are chosen by their respective viscosities, interfacial surface energies, and refractive index differential. In an embodiment, it has been found that when the viscosity ratio of first (matrix) optically clear material to second (light dispersing) optically clear is between 0.05 and 10, the first optically clear material disperses or breaks the second optically clear material up into particles of a desired diameter during mixing or mastication of the two optically clear materials while in the fluid phase.
