A vehicle includes a manual like a POV mode that is set when a VP is turned on, a manual with VO mode in which the VP is under the control by an operator, and an autonomy with VO mode in which the VP is under the control by an ADS. A processor of a VCIB is configured 1) to receive an operator command for transition of the vehicle from the manual like a POV mode to the manual with VO mode from the ADS and 2) to provide an autonomy ready signal indicating that autonomous driving of the VP is ready to the ADS and receive an autonomy request for transition of the vehicle from the manual with VO mode to the autonomy with VO mode from the ADS.

A VP includes an EPB system configured to switch between activation and release of brakehold and a VCIB that interfaces between an ADS and a VP. The VCIB is configured to provide a standstill status signal to the ADS. The standstill status signal includes a value applied indicating activation of brakehold and a value released indicating release of brakehold. The ADS includes a compute assembly. When the compute assembly requests the VP to activate brakehold, it requests the VP to decelerate until the standstill status signal switches from the value released to the value applied.

An ADS performs processing including setting an acceleration command to V1 when an autonomous state is set to an autonomous mode, when the acceleration command has a value indicating deceleration, when a vehicle velocity is zero, and when a standstill command is set to 'Applied' and setting an immobilization command to “Applied” when a traveling direction of a vehicle indicates a standstill status, when there is a wheellock request, and when predetermined time has elapsed since the vehicle came to a standstill.

A VP carries out vehicle control in accordance with an instruction from an ADK. A vehicle control interface interfaces between the VP and the ADK. The vehicle control interface receives from the ADK, a power supply mode request which is an instruction for controlling a power supply mode of the VP. The power supply mode includes a sleep mode in which a vehicle is in a Ready OFF state, a driving mode in which the vehicle is in a Ready ON state, and a wake mode in which the vehicle control interface is on.

An ADS performs processing including setting an initial value of a wheel steer angle command when an autonomous state has been set to an autonomous mode, obtaining a limitation of a rate, setting a wheel steer angle limitation as the wheel steer angle command when magnitude of the initial value is larger than the wheel steer angle limitation, and transmitting the wheel steer angle command.

An ADK is attachable to and removable from a VP and issues an instruction for autonomous driving to the VP. The VP includes a steering system for steering of the VP. (An ADS of) the ADK includes a compute assembly and a communication module configured to communicate with the VP. The compute assembly obtains from the VP, a torque value relating to a steering systemthrough the communication module and transmits to the VP, a wheel steer angle command indicating the wheel steer angle in accordance with a driving plan for autonomous driving and the obtained torque value. Even when a user intervenes with an operation while the attachable and removable ADK that issues the instruction for autonomous driving controls the VP, stable steering can be achieved.

When a first driver setting mode indicates an 'OFF mode' or an “AUTO mode,” a VP accepts a light operation mode request from an ADK. When an operation is performed by a user, the VP changes an operation mode of a headlight in accordance with the operation by the user. When the operation by the user has not been performed, the VP changes the operation mode of the headlight in accordance with the light operation mode request.

Vehicle

A VCIB interfaces between an autonomous driving kit (ADK) and a vehicle platform (VP). The VP includes as vehicle modes, a manual mode in which the VP is under the control by a driver and an autonomous mode in which the VP is under the control by the ADK. When a first condition is satisfied in the manual mode, the VCIB has the vehicle mode make transition from the manual mode to the autonomous mode. The first condition includes (1) a condition that the VCIB has authenticated the ADK, (2) a condition that a power mode status signal indicates 'drive mode,' (3) a condition that a readiness-for-autonomization signal indicates “Ready for Autonomous Mode,” and (4) a condition that a vehicle mode request indicates “Request for Autonomy.”

A vehicle control interface connects a vehicle platform including a first computer that performs travel control of a vehicle and an autonomous driving platform including a second computer that performs autonomous driving control of the vehicle. The vehicle control interface includes a control unit configured to execute: acquiring, from the second computer, a first control command including at least one of first data on designating acceleration or deceleration and second data on designating a travel track; converting the first control command into a second control command for the first computer; and transmitting the second control command to the first computer. The first control command is data for controlling the vehicle platform.
