Examples of techniques for vehicle communication between a first vehicle and a second vehicle are disclosed. An example method includes displaying, on an external vehicle display of the first vehicle, vehicle data. The method further includes capturing, by a camera of the second vehicle, an image of the external vehicle display. The method further includes processing, by a processing device associated with the second vehicle, the image to extract the vehicle data about the first vehicle. The method further includes determining, by the processing device, a position of the first vehicle relative to a position of the second vehicle based at least in part on the vehicle data. The method further includes controlling, by the processing device associated with the second vehicle, the second vehicle based at least in part on the position of the first vehicle relative to the position of the second vehicle.

Using an external vehicle display for vehicle communication

A system and method to control communication in a vehicle include receiving an input. A controller determines whether to transmit a message using a high frequency (HF) communication system based on the input. The frequency range used by the HF communication system is lower than a frequency range used by the cellular communication system. The method includes controlling transmission by the HF communication system based on determining to transmit the message using the HF communication system.

A method of performing collision prevention and a system to perform collision prevention involve a communication interface to receive information from connected devices of individuals. The system also includes a processor to obtain the information from the connected devices, estimate a potential for an upcoming collision, and issue an alert based on the potential for the upcoming collision to one or more of the connected devices.

Wireless intra-vehicle communication and information provision by vehicles

A vehicle and a method of communication for a vehicle is disclosed. The vehicle includes an on-board gateway for communication using visible light communication (VLC) and a visible light transceiver that is operated by the on-board gateway to enable VLC data communication. The transceiver can communicate with a VLC-enabled device that is within a communication range of the vehicle. The VLC-enabled device can be internal to or external to the vehicle. In one embodiment, a VLC signal is communicated between the vehicle and another vehicle having an on-board VLC gateway and transceiver. The on-board gateway and VLC transceiver enable provide traffic management. A traffic management signal is transmitted from a signal origination device and received at the vehicle using visible light communication, allowing the vehicle to be driven according to the traffic management signal.

A method of a vehicle obtaining sensor data originating at one or more of other vehicles includes receiving input from an operator or system within the vehicle, and generating a request for the sensor data based on the input. The request specifies one or more parameters and the one or more parameters include a location at which the sensor data is obtained. The method also includes sending the request for the sensor data, receiving the sensor data, and processing the sensor data. The processing includes providing the sensor data to the operator or the system within the vehicle based on the input. A central server includes an interface to receive sensor data and parameters from one or more vehicles according to vehicle-to-network (V2N) communication. A processor generates a digital map from the sensor data. The digital map includes a layer for each type of the sensor data.

Multi-vehicle sensor sharing

An autonomous-driving vehicle system, for implementation at an autonomous-driving vehicle. The autonomous-driving vehicle system includes a hardware-based processing unit and a non-transitory computer-readable storage device comprising and input module and an activity module. The input module, when executed by the hardware-based processing unit, obtains input data indicating presence of a pedestrian communication device near the autonomous-driving vehicle. The activity module, when executed by the hardware-based processing unit: (i) determines, based on the input data, in a pedestrian-presence determination, that the pedestrian communication device is or will soon be near the autonomous-driving vehicle, and (ii) determines, based on the pedestrian-presence determination, an autonomous-driving action to be implemented by the autonomous-driving vehicle. In other aspects, the present technology relates to a method or a non-transitory computer readable storage device, for performing any of the operations described.

Vehicle-to-pedestrian-communication systems and methods for using the same

A system for providing power signals to peripheral devices on a vehicle using magnetic resonance coupling. The system includes a transmitter circuit having a variable current source, a base coil and a variable capacitor, where the current source and the capacitor are tuned to provide a predetermined AC current to the base coil so as to generate an oscillating magnetic field at a predetermined frequency. The system also includes a receiver circuit for each peripheral device, where each receiver circuit includes a receiver coil and a rechargeable power source. When the base coil is tuned to the receiver coil the power source can be recharged through magnetic resonance coupling to power the device. The transmitter circuit can be on the vehicle or can be separate from the vehicle, such as in a charging pad.

Vehicular electrical architecture of both wireless power and communication peripherals using MRC

A hybrid vehicle communications network including a combination of wired and wireless ECUs and wired and wireless peripherals. A communications backbone, either a CAN bus or a powerline, is electrically coupled to each of the ECUs. The wireless peripherals provide wireless signals to all of the wireless ECUs and each wireless ECU provides data messages on the backbone based on the signals received from the wireless peripherals to be received by a target ECU. Also, one or more of the ECUs puts messages on the backbone to be transmitted wirelessly by all of the wireless ECUs to be received by a wireless peripheral.
