There is described a material comprising tapes, ribbons, fibrils or fibers characterized in that each of the ribbons, fibrils or fibers have an antiparallel arrangement of peptides in a &#x3b2;-sheet tape-like substructure.

Beta sheet tapes ribbons in tissue engineering

Novel self-assembling peptide complexes comprising a charged peptide and a polysaccharide, methods of producing them and uses therefore are described. The novel self-assembling peptide complexes have particular utility in the restoration of biomechanical or biochemical function of a variety of biological tissues, for example and without limitation, in degenerated spinal discs, osteoarthritic joints, damaged cartilage, meniscus, ligaments, tendons, dental, ophthalmic and cardiovascular and blood vessel tissues. Methods of repairing and or restoring biomechanical or biochemical function of biological tissues and scaffolds for the support of cell growth are also described.

Self-assembling peptide and polysaccharide complexes

The invention provides natural multi-composite bone implants such as bone-connective tissue-bone and osteochondral implants for the replacement and/or repair of, for example and in particular a damaged or defective bone-meniscus-bone joint or a bone-patella tendon-bone joint or osteochondral lesions, methods of preparing the composites and uses thereof. The invention also provides natural or native composite bone-connective tissue-bone and osteochondral matrices or scaffolds that are substantially decellularized for subsequent transplantation/implantation.

&#x3b2;sheet tapes ribbons in tissue engineering

A product comprising a natural acellular xenogenic vascular tissue matrix having at least an 80% reduction in DNA content as compared to an untreated control vascular tissue matrix and being antigenically inert by being substantially free of epitopes capable of reacting with pre-formed human antibodies and also without having the ability to substantially activate complement. The invention also includes methods of preparing such products and uses of the products especially in bypass surgery.

Acellular vascular products

The invention provides an improved method of producing a natural, acellular matrix scaffold for subsequent use in tissue-engineered replacement of tissues such as the bladder. Decellularization is carried out on an expanded or distended bladder and the product retains the strength and compliance of natural material. The invention also provides use of the matrix scaffolds as wound healing material and to investigate tissue structure and function in vitro.

Decellularisation of tissue matrices for bladder implantation

The invention provides an improved method of producing a natural, acellular matrix scaffold for subsequent use in tissue-engineered replacement of tissues such as the bladder. The present invention relates to a method of preparing a tissue matrix and its subsequent use in the replacement and/or repair of a damaged or defective meniscus. The invention also provides meniscal tissue that is substantially decellularised.
