A sound masking device includes: a sound pick-up unit which picks up a sound, and which produces a picked-up sound signal based on the sound, a masking sound signal producing unit which produces a masking sound signal from the picked-up sound signal a sound emitting unit which emits a masking sound based on the masking sound signal, and an echo cancelling unit which performs an echo cancelling process on the picked-up sound signal by performing an adaptive filtering process on the masking sound signal, and by subtracting the filtered masking sound signal from the picked-up sound signal. The masking sound signal producing unit produces a masking sound signal having a level corresponding to an amplitude level of the picked-up sound signal which has subjected to the echo cancelling process.

A recording/reproducing apparatus includes a plurality of unidirectional microphones and a plurality of direction indicator switches. In a normal reproducing mode, a plurality of audio signals which are picked up by the unidirectional microphones and subsequently recorded is read and reproduced in parallel. When another direction other than a plurality of directions corresponding to the unidirectional microphones is designated, audio signals picked up by two unidirectional microphones which are disposed to sandwich the designated direction is selectively read and reproduced.

A storage section stores original music data representing a music piece composed of tones. An acquisition section acquires input information from control device which has a detector for detecting either physical action or physiological state of user and operated by user to provide input information indicating detection result by detector. A processing section controls a performance parameter according to input information for enabling sound device to generate tones of the music piece represented by original music data and altered by user. Performance interface system includes a motion detector provided for movement with a performer, and a control system for receiving detection data transmitted from the motion detector and controlling a performance of a tone in response to the received detection data. State of a performer's motion is detected via a sensor of the motion detector, and detection data representative of the detected motion state is transmitted to the control system. The control system receives the detection data from the motion detector, analyzes the performer's motion on the basis of the detection data, and then controls a tone performance in accordance with the analyzed data. With this arrangement, the performer can readily take part in the tone performance in the control system. For example, as the performer moves his or her hand, leg or trunk while listening to a manual or automatic performance of a music piece being carried out by a performance apparatus of the control system, the motion detector detects the performer's motion and transmits corresponding detection data to the control system, which in turn variably controls a predetermined one of tonal factors in the music piece performance. This arrangement can readily provide interactive performance control and thereby allows an inexperienced or unskilled performer to take part in a performance with enjoyment.

There is provided a musical tone control system capable of controlling the generation of musical tones in a manner reflecting only motion or physical posture suitable for the musical tone generation control when controlling the generation of musical tones reflecting motions of a plurality of users or a plurality of body parts thereof or physical posture thereof. A plurality of motion detecting devices capable of being carried by operators detect motions of the users or operators carrying the devices, and transmit detected motion signals indicative of the detected motions. A receiver device receives the detected motion signals transmitted from the plurality of motion detecting devices. A CPU control extracts at least one detected motion signal satisfying a predetermined condition from the detected motion signals received by the receiver device and controls musical tones to be generated, based on the extracted at least one detected motion signal.

A musical tone generation control apparatus including a tone generating apparatus that generates musical tones generates performance control information for controlling musical tones generated from the tone generating apparatus based on the received motion information, generates vibration control information based on the generated performance control information, and transmits the generated vibration control information to the operating terminal. The operating terminal generates a vibration corresponding to the received vibration control information.

A performance processing apparatus is operable by an operation device and equipped with a sound device and a display device. In the apparatus, a storing section stores song data representative of a music sound constituting a music song, and stores image data representative of an image. An acquiring section acquires detection information from the operation device, which is used by a user and which has a detector for detecting a chronological action or state of the user and outputting the detection information representative of the detected chronological action or state. A sound control section generates the music sound through the sound device according to the song data, and controls a progression degree of the generation of the music sound according to the acquired detection information. A display control section displays the image by the display device according to the image data in correspondence with the progression degree of the generating of the music sound. The display control section further controls a rendering mode of the image in accordance with the detection information.

Musical tones generated from a musical instrument are detected, and tone data is stored in a storage device, and the tone data stored in the storage device is reproduced and at least one tone corresponding to the tone data is egenrated when no next musical tone is detected within a predetermined period of time after a musical tone is detected.

There is provided a musical tone control system which is capable of preventing control not intended by the user even when the user stops moving when controlling the generation of musical tones reflecting motion or physical posture of the user. A motion detecting device capable of being carried by an operator generates a detected motion signal corresponding to motion of the operator carrying the device, and transmits same to an external device. A musical tone generating device generates musical tones. A control device receives the detected motion signal transmitted from the motion detecting device and controls generation of musical tones from the musical tone generating device based on the received detected motion signal. The control device determines whether the operator is in a moving state based on the received detected motion signal, and when determining that the operator is not in the moving state, performs control to stop the generation of musical tones from the musical tone generating device after a predetermined time period elapses after the determination is made.
