The invention relates to a novel class of (S)-3'-substituted-abscisic acid derivatives and (&#xb1;)-3&#x2032;-substituted-abscisic acid derivatives, and methods of synthesizing the derivatives.

3'-substituted-abscisic acid derivatives

There are disclosed novel pyrimidone derivatives of the formula I: ##STR1## wherein X is hydrogen, chlorine, methyl or ethyl, R.sup.2 is hydrogen or methyl, and Q is ##STR2## A is fluorine, chlorine or bromine; and R.sup.1 is alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, alkoxyalkyl or haloalkyl. Also disclosed are a herbicidal composition containing a herbicidally effective amount of the compound (I) as an active ingredient and a method for exterminating undesired weeds by applying a herbicidally effective amount of the compound (I) to an area where the undesired weeds grow or will grow.

Pyrimidone derivatives and their use

A compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is a trifluoromethyl group or a pentafluoroethyl group, R.sup.2 is a methyl group or an amino group, R.sup.3 is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 alkyl group, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 alkenyl group, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 alkynyl group, a halo (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6) alkyl group, a halo (C.sub.3 -C.sub.6) alkenyl group or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy(C.sub.1 -C.sub.3)alkyl group and Y is an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom, which is useful as a herbicide.

N-aminouracil derivatives, and their production and use

There are disclosed novel benzofuran derivatives of the formula: ##STR1## Also disclosed are a herbicidal composition containing the above benzofuran derivative as an active ingredient and a method for exterminating undesired weeds by the application of a herbicidally effective amount of the above benzofuran derivative to an area where the undesired weeds grow or will grow.

There is disclosed a 1-phenyl-4 trifluoromethyl-uracil derivative of the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is hydrogen or methyl, and R.sup.2 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.7 alkyl or C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 cycloalkyl optionally substituted with C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl. A compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, lower alkynyl, lower alkoxy(lower)alkyl, halo(lower)alkyl or halo(lower) alkenyl, X is chlorine or bromine, and Y is methyl optionally substituted with halogen, which is useful as an active ingredient of herbicides.

Amino uracil derivatives, and their production and use

There are disclosed novel arylindazole derivatives of the formula: ##STR1## and agrochemically acceptable salts thereof. Also disclosed are a herbicidal composition including the above arylindazole derivative as an active ingredient and a method for exterminating undesired weeds by the application of a herbicidally effective amount of the above arylindazole derivative to an area where the undesired weeds grow or will grow.

Pyridone derivatives of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is an alkyl group, an alkenyl group, an alkynyl group, a haloalkyl group, a haloalkenyl group or an alkoxyalkyl group, X is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a methyl group optionally substituted with mono or poly halogen atoms or an ethyl group optionally substituted with mono or poly halogen atoms and Y is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group. Said compounds show a high herbicidal potency against undesired weeds.

A compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein X is a chlorine atom or a bromine atom and R is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl group except isopropyl, which is useful as a herbicide.

Tetrahydrophthalimides, and their production and use as herbicides

A compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is a lower alkyl group, A is a hydrogen atom, a fluorine atom or a chlorine atom, X is an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom, Y is a hydrogen atom, a fluorine atom, a chlorine atom or a bromine atom and Z is a methyl group or an amino group, which is useful as a herbicide.

A compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl group, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 alkenyl group, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 alkynyl group or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy(C.sub.1 -C.sub.3)alkyl group, which is useful as a herbicide.

Benzoxazinyl-pyrazoles and their use as herbicides

A compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl group, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkenyl group, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkynyl group, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkoxy (C.sub.1 -C.sub.2) alkyl group, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkylthio (C.sub.1 -C.sub.2) alkyl group or a mono- or polyfluoro-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.3) group, X is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylene group which may be substituted with at least one methyl or a --OCH.sub.2 -- group and n is an integer of 0, 1 or 2, which is useful as a herbicide.
