An image forming apparatus includes a sheet feeding cassette configured to store a recording sheet, a conveyance unit configured to convey the recording sheet stored in the sheet feeding cassette, and an image forming unit configured to form an image on a photo sensitive member, and to transfer the image onto the recording sheet conveyed by the conveyance unit. A power supply unit is configured to convert an alternating current (AC) voltage of a commercial power supply into a direct current (DC) voltage, and is configured to supply the AC voltage and the DC voltage. A first heater heats the sheet feeding cassette, and generates heat with the AC voltage supplied by the commercial power supply, and a second heater heats the photosensitive member of the image forming unit, and generates heat with the DC voltage supplied by the power supply unit.

An image forming apparatus having a power saving mode includes a first power supply configured to operate in the power saving mode, a second power supply configured to operate in a mode other than the power saving mode, a heater configured to generate heat when power is fed from the first power supply or the second power supply, and a control circuit configured to control power feeding from the first power supply to the heater and activation or stopping of the second power supply. The control circuit is configured to control, based on an instruction to shift from the power saving mode to another mode, so that power feeding from the first power supply to the heater is cut off, and the second power supply is activated to start power feeding from the second power supply to the heater.

When the shutdown processing is complete, the control circuit outputs a signal for terminating an operation of a second DC power source. An image forming apparatus which can individually detect contact fusion of relays in a circuit configuration in which the relays are connected to respective both ends of a fixing heater. A first relay and a second relay are each connected between a power source and the fixing heater. The presence or absence of an input voltage to the fixing heater is detected on paths from the first relay to the fixing heater and from the second relay to the fixing heater. When the input voltage is detected in a state in which the first relay is on and the second relay is off, it is determined that the second relay has failed. When the input voltage is detected in a state in which the first relay is off and the second relay is on, it is determined that the first relay has failed.

The noise filter circuit filers out noise on the supply paths. When supply of alternating-current power to a power supplied device disposed downstream of the noise filter is started, one of the relays is switched into supply state first, and then the other one is switched into supply state so that the number of times each relay is switched into supply state first per predetermined number of times power is supplied can be substantially equal between the first and second relays.
