The invention provides a golf ball that is a one-piece golf ball or a golf ball having a core and a cover of one layer or a plurality of layers, wherein the one-piece golf ball or core is formed of a material molded under heat from a rubber composition containing: The content of component (D) per 100 parts by weight of component (A) is from 30 to 45 parts by weight. The molar ratio (C)/(D) between components (C) and (D) satisfies the formula0.9&#x3c;()/()&#x3c;1.1. The core has an initial velocity Vof at least 72.0 m/s and up to 75.0 m/s.

In a colored golf ball having a core, a cover of two or more layers encasing the core, and a coat of paint applied to a surface of an outermost layer of the cover, the outermost cover layer is formed of a resin composition which includes (a) a thermoplastic resin, (b) a fluorescent color-containing color pigment and/or dye, and (c) titanium oxide. A layer adjoining an inner side of the outermost layer is formed of a resin composition containing a resin. The colored golf ball has an excellent rebound and weatherability, and also is endowed with a high brightness and a sense of quality and elegance.

The invention provides golf ball materials which include, in admixture, (A) an oxygen-containing inorganic metal compound, (B) one or more polymers selected from the group consisting of multi-component polyamides, and (C) an acid-containing polymer, and additionally includes, if the oxygen-containing inorganic metal compound (A) does not include a zinc cationic species, (D) a zinc ionomer. The invention also provides methods for preparing such golf ball materials, and golf balls made with the materials. The golf ball materials are multi-component polyamide blend compositions having an excellent flow and processability and a suitable hardness, making them ideal as materials for obtaining high-performance golf balls which are endowed with outstanding durability and scuff resistance without any loss in rebound resilience.

The invention provides a golf ball material which is a resin mixture composed of (a) an olefin-methacrylic acid copolymer and/or an olefin-methacrylic acid-unsaturated carboxylic acid ester copolymer having a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of from 120,000 to 200,000 and a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) to number-average molecular weight (Mn) ratio of from 4.0 to 7.0, or a metal neutralization product thereof, (b) an olefin-acrylic acid copolymer and/or an olefin-acrylic acid-unsaturated carboxylic acid ester copolymer having a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of from 150,000 to 220,000 and a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) to number-average molecular weight (Mn) ratio of from 5.5 to 8.5, or a metal neutralization product thereof, (c) an organic acid or a metal salt thereof, and (d) a basic inorganic metal compound for neutralizing at least 70 mol % of acid groups in components (a) to (c), which resin mixture has a Shore D hardness of from 30 to 60. The golf ball material of the invention is a low-hardness material. Golf balls in which an injection molding of the golf ball material is used as a cover material have an excellent rebound and durability.

The invention provides a golf ball material which is a resin mixture composed of (a) an olefin-unsaturated carboxylic acid copolymer and/or an olefin-unsaturated carboxylic acid-unsaturated carboxylic acid ester copolymer having a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of from 120,000 to 200,000 and a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) to number-average molecular weight (Mn) ratio of from 4.3 to 6.6, or a metal neutralization product thereof, (b) an olefin-unsaturated carboxylic acid copolymer and/or an olefin-unsaturated carboxylic acid-unsaturated carboxylic acid ester copolymer having a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of from 120,000 to 200,000 and a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) to number-average molecular weight (Mn) ratio of from 6.8 to 9.5, or a metal neutralization product thereof, (c) an organic acid or a metal salt thereof and (d) a basic inorganic metal compound for neutralizing at least 70 mol % of acid groups in components (a) to (c), which resin mixture has a Shore D hardness of from 30 to 55. The golf ball material of the invention is a low-hardness material. Golf balls in which an injection molding of the golf ball material is used as a cover material have an excellent rebound and durability.

The invention provides a golf ball material which is a resin mixture composed of (a) an olefin-unsaturated carboxylic acid copolymer and/or an olefin-unsaturated carboxylic acid-unsaturated carboxylic acid ester copolymer having a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of from 40,000 to 80,000 and a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) to number-average molecular weight (Mn) ratio of from 5.0 to 8.0, or a metal neutralization product thereof, (b) an olefin-unsaturated carboxylic acid copolymer and/or an olefin-unsaturated carboxylic acid-unsaturated carboxylic acid ester copolymer having a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of from 120,000 to 200,000 and a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) to number-average molecular weight (Mn) ratio of from 6.0 to 9.5, or a metal neutralization product thereof, (c) an organic acid or a metal salt thereof, and (d) a basic inorganic metal compound for neutralizing at least 70 mol % of acid groups in components (a) to (c), which resin mixture has a Shore D hardness of from 30 to 50. The golf ball material of the invention is a low-hardness material. Golf balls in which an injection molding of the golf ball material is used as a cover material have an excellent rebound and durability.

A golf ball material composed of (A) an oxygen-containing inorganic metal compound in the form of a particulate or a master batch capable of neutralizing at least some of the acid groups in an acid-containing polymer blend, (B) one or more polymer selected from among diene polymers, thermoplastic polymers and thermoset polymers, and (C) an acid-containing polymer is prepared by mixing component A in a blend of components B and C. The golf ball material has a good heat resistance, flowability and processability, and can be used to produce high-performance golf balls having durability, scuff resistance and optimal hardness without a loss of rebound.

The invention provides a golf ball material comprising components (A), (B) and (C): (A) a mixture of different masterbatches prepared by separately masterbatching two or more different metal ions (A1) or a masterbatch prepared by simultaneously masterbatching two or more different metal ions in itself (A2), (B) one or more polymer selected from the group consisting of diene polymers, thermoplastic polymers and thermoset polymers, and (C) one or more polymer having an acid content of from about 0.5 to about 30 wt % and selected from the group consisting of olefin-unsaturated carboxylic acid copolymers, olefin-unsaturated carboxylic acid-unsaturated carboxylic acid ester terpolymers, unsaturated carboxylic anhydride-containing polymers, unsaturated dicarboxylic acid-containing polymers and unsaturated dicarboxylic acid half ester-containing polymers. The invention also provides a method for preparing such a golf ball material, and a golf ball made of the material. The golf ball material has a good thermal stability, flow and processability, making it suitable for injection-molding. Moreover, this material is ideal for producing, without any loss of the rebound resilience of golf ball parts molded from the material, high-performance golf balls having excellent durability, scuff resistance and flexibility.

The invention provides a golf ball in which an intermediate layer formed of a highly neutralized resin mixture obtained by using two nonionic resins of differing weight-average molecular weights and breadths of molecular weight distribution (weight-average molecular weight/number-average molecular weight) as the base resin and adding thereto an organic acid or a metal salt thereof and a basic inorganic metal compound capable of being neutralized is combined with a cover formed of an ionic resin having a weight-average molecular weight in a specific range and a breadth of molecular weight distribution (weight-average molecular weight/number-average molecular weight) in a specific range. The golf ball material of the invention has an excellent rebound and durability.

The invention provides a golf ball material which is a resin mixture composed of (a) a nonionic olefin-unsaturated carboxylic acid copolymer and/or olefin-unsaturated carboxylic acid-unsaturated carboxylic acid ester copolymer, (b) a nonionic olefin-unsaturated carboxylic acid copolymer and/or olefin-unsaturated carboxylic acid-unsaturated carboxylic acid ester copolymer, (c) an organic acid or a metal salt thereof, (d) a basic inorganic metal compound for neutralizing at least 70 mol % of acid groups in components (a) to (c), and (e) a spherical inorganic filler, which resin mixture has a Shore D hardness of from 40 to 60. The golf ball material of the invention provides an excellent rebound resilience and durability while maintaining the flow properties essential for injection molding.

The invention provides a golf ball material composed of an ionomeric resin composition obtained by melt-blending under applied heat one or more compounds selected from among UV/EB-curable materials with, in the presence of a peroxide, a non-ionomeric thermoplastic resin and an ionomeric resin; or of an ionomeric resin composition obtained by using, instead of the ionomeric resin, an acid-containing polymer base of the ionomeric resin and subjecting the acid-containing polymer composition similarly prepared by melt-blending under applied heat to an acid-neutralizing reaction with a metal ionic species. Methods for preparing such a material, and golf balls which include as a component therein a molding made of the golf ball material are also provided. The golf ball material has a good thermal stability, flow and processability, and can thus be used to obtain high-performance golf balls endowed with an excellent abrasion resistance, scuff resistance, durability and flexibility without a loss of rebound.

The invention provides a golf ball material composed of (i) a non-ionomeric thermoplastic resin, (ii) an ionomeric resin and/or an acid-containing polymer which is the base polymer of an ionomeric resin, and (iii) a norbornene dicarboxylic anhydride and/or a derivative thereof. Methods for preparing such a material, and a golf ball which includes as a component therein a part made of the golf ball material are also provided. The golf ball material has a good thermal stability, flow and processability, and can thus be used to obtain high-performance golf balls endowed with an excellent rebound resilience, durability and flexibility.

The invention provides a method for preparing a material which includes an ionomer blend composition containing a polysilsesquioxane, has a good inorganic filler dispersibility and a good moldability (mold releasability), and has an excellent scuff resistance and coefficient of restitution. The invention also provides a golf ball made using such a material. The ionomer blend composition is an ionomer-based material wherein the polysilsesquioxane and the ionomer are at least partly chemically bonded therebetween, and which has excellent properties such as coefficient of restitution and scuff resistance.

The invention provides a golf ball material made of a resin composition composed of (a-I) an olefin-acrylic acid copolymer having a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of from about 150,000 to about 200,000 and a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) to number-average molecular weight (Mn) ratio of from about 3.0 to about 7.0, or a metal neutralization production thereof; (a-II) an olefin-methacrylic acid-unsaturated carboxylic acid ester copolymer having a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of from about 120,000 to about 200,000 and a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) to number-average molecular weight (Mn) ratio of from about 3.0 to about 7.0, or a metal neutralization production thereof; (b) an organic acid or a metal salt thereof; and (c) a basic inorganic metal compound which is capable of neutralizing acid groups in the composition. The golf ball material of the invention enables a highly neutralized ionomer having good flow properties and moldability to be achieved. Golf balls in which an injection molding of the golf ball material is used as the cover material have an excellent rebound while retaining a good durability.

A golf ball having a polymer layer that has been subjected to impregnation treatment with an isocyanate and/or isothiocyanate-containing olefin compound exhibits at least one improved golf ball attribute, such as scuff resistance or spin performance, compared with an original golf ball that has not been treated by impregnation.
