A vehicle electronic control unit (ECU) prevents its power supply from being cut off while it is in the process of re-programming data in a re-programmable nonvolatile memory. An ECU includes a microcomputer which, after receiving a re-program request from a re-programming device, determines if an identification code in a flash memory and an identification code from the re-programming device match. If the codes do match, the microcomputer executes re-program processing for overwriting all the data in the flash memory, including a control program. The ECU is supplied with power from a battery by way of a main relay whose contacts are closed when a vehicle ignition switch (IGSW) is turned on or when a drive signal is applied to the relay. When the IGSW starts to operate, the microcomputer outputs the drive signal to the main relay and, when it completes re-program processing and the IGSW is off, the microcomputer stops outputting the drive signal. Thus even if the IGSW is switched off during execution of re-program processing, power to the microcomputer is maintained so that the re-program processing is not interrupted.

A first chamber is formed in the interior of one axial end of the housing and defined by one end of the activated carbon layer, and a second chamber is formed in the interior at the other axial end of the housing and defined by the other end of the activated carbon layer. A device for preventing an outflow of a fuel vapor from a fuel tank comprising a breather pipe which connects the upper interior of the fuel tank to a charcoal canister. A float-valve assembly is mounted on the upper wall of the fuel tank. This assembly comprises a breather passage connected to the charcoal canister via the breather pipe, a normally closed solenoid valve arranged in the breather passage, and a float normally allowing the breather passage to be open to the interior of the fuel tank. When the replenishment of the fuel tank is carried out, the solenoid valve is opened to feed fuel vapor in the fuel tank into the charcoal canister.

Device for preventing outflow of a fuel vapor from a fuel tank

A fuel tank having a fuel inlet pipe which has a normally closed closure valve arranged therein and opened by a fuel pump nozzle. A valve housing is fixed onto the outer wall of the fuel inlet pipe. A cam and a normally closed control valve actuated by the cam and controlling the fluid connection between the canister and the interior of the fuel tank are arranged in the valve housing. The cam shaft of the cam is mechanically connected to the rotary shaft of the closure valve. When the closure valve is opened by the fuel pump nozzle, the control valve is opened by the cam to feed the fuel vapor in the fuel tank into the canister.

Fuel tank for use in a vehicle

A valve assembly for use in a fuel tank of a vehicle which includes a first valve mechanism and a dust preventing member. The valve assembly is secured to the fuel tank and the valve assembly allows selective communication between the inside of the fuel tank and the outside of the fuel tank. The first valve mechanism includes a valve casing and a valve body. When the valve body is positioned at a first position, the valve body is positioned apart from an aperture of the valve casing. As a result, the valve assembly allows the communication between the inside of the fuel tank and the outside of the fuel tank through the aperture of the valve casing. On the other hand, when the valve body is positioned at a second position, the valve body covers the aperture of the valve casing. As a result, the valve assembly prevents communication between the inside of the fuel tank and the outside of the fuel tank. A dust preventing member is secured to an outer surface of the valve casing and includes a wall member. Accordingly, substantially all of minute dust particles and water vapor in the air flow are forced down by the wall member of the dust preventing means. Therefore, the dust preventing means substantially prevents the introduction of minute dust particles and water vapor into the fuel tank.

Valve assembly for use in a fuel tank of a vehicle

Fuel filler conduit connected at one end with fuel reservoir for engine in automobile etc. has the free end exposed out of the body wall. When removing a cap engaging with said free end for fuel filling, fuel vapour therein is released in the atmosphere. The invention provides a lid normally closing conduit inlet and adapted to be open by tip end of fuel dispensing nozzle. Angular movement of the lid actuates a valve normally closing an outlet to be open so that fuel vapour in the conduit is supplied from the outlet through a pipe to the engine.
