The valve driving apparatus of an internal combustion engine includes a valve element functioning as an intake valve or an exhaust valve of the internal combustion engine, an electromagnetic actuator for driving the valve element, an actuator body having a plurality of electromagnetic actuators mounted thereto, and wiring for supplying electric power to each of the electromagnetic actuators. The actuator body has a flow path for allowing a cooling medium to flow therethrough. The wiring is provided near the flow path of the actuator body. This structure enables a reduction in space for power distribution while minimizing overheating of the wires.

Valve driving apparatus of internal combustion engine

The high-pressure fuel supply device for an internal combustion engine for pressurizing fuel to a high pressure and supplying the pressurized fuel to the internal combustion engine. The device includes: a fuel pressure chamber defined by a cylinder and a plunger disposed in the cylinder so as to reciprocate in the cylinder; a fuel flow passage for pumping out fuel from a fuel tank with a pump and sending the pumped fuel to the fuel pressure chamber; a check valve disposed in the fuel flow passage for permitting flow of the fuel only to the fuel pressure chamber; a fuel supply passage associating the fuel pressure chamber with the internal combustion engine for pressing the fuel in the fuel pressure chamber pressurized by reciprocation of the plunger into the internal combustion engine; a fuel spill passage associating the fuel pressure chamber with the fuel tank; and a fuel spill valve disposed in the fuel spill passage for changing a spill amount of fuel to be returned to the fuel tank by opening and closing the fuel spill valve, so as to regulate an amount of fuel to be pressed to flow from the fuel pressure chamber to the internal combustion engine.

High-pressure fuel supply device for internal combustion engine

A piezoelectric-element drive apparatus includes a direct-current power supply. An energy storing capacitor is connected in parallel with the direct-current power supply. An energy-transfer switching element becomes on when energy is transferred from the energy storing capacitor. A piezoelectric element connected in parallel with the energy storing capacitor receives energy and expands when the energy-transfer switching element becomes on. A discharging coil is connected in parallel with the piezoelectric element. A discharging switching element is operative for discharging the piezoelectric element via the discharging coil. A coupling transformer is provided between the energy storing capacitor and the piezoelectric element.

Piezolectric-element drive apparatus

An apparatus for controlling a fuel pressure suitable for a direct injection type fuel injection internal combustion engine, using gasoline as a fuel. A low pressure pump and high pressure pump from a fuel tank are arranged in series between a reservoir tank and fuel injectors. A pressure at the output of the low pressure pump is detected to determine if the fuel tank is empty, and when it is determined from the pressure at the outlet of the small pump that the fuel tank is empty, the operation of the high pressure pump is stopped to thereby prevent a generation of bubbles in the reservoir tank. A fuel injection is stopped when there is a drop in the pressure in the reservoir tank.

Apparatus for controlling the fuel pressure in an internal combustion

A fuel injection valve includes a fuel swirl generation device, a main fuel injection hole having a comparatively large diameter, and a subsidiary fuel injection hole having a comparatively small diameter. The inclination of the main fuel injection hole with respect to an axis of the fuel injection valve is small so that a fuel swirl remains in the fuel injected therethrough. The inclination of the subsidiary fuel injection hole is great so that the swirl operates so as to push out the fuel through the subsidiary fuel injection hole. The fuel injected through the main fuel injection hole spreads due to the centrifugal force acting on the swirling fuel without depending on an intake gas swirl. The fuel injected through the subsidiary fuel injection hole has a strong penetrating force and can reach the vicinity of a spark plug. This improves ignition without depending on an intake gas swirl. Thus, good combustion is obtained over an entire operation range of a direct fuel injection type engine.

A direct fuel injection type spark ignition internal combustion engine includes a combustion chamber including a shallow dish portion and a deep dish portion formed in a piston top portion, a spark plug located close to an axis of the combustion chamber, and a fuel injection nozzle located at a radially outermost portion of the combustion chamber. With this arrangement, a good ignition characteristic in a low engine load operation and an improved power characteristic in a high engine load operation are obtained. Further, due to that arrangement of the spark plug, the flame propagation distance is made as short as possible.

Direct fuel injection type spark ignition internal combustion engine

A fuel injector comprising a piston actuated by a piezoelectric element. A pressure control chamber is formed between the piston and the top face of the needle and connected to a high pressure fuel source via a fuel passage having a restricted flow area. The pressure control chamber is filled with fuel under pressure. The rear face of the piston, which is positioned opposite to the pressure control chamber, is exposed to a high pressure fuel chamber filled with fuel under pressure. The driving force acting on the piston due to the pressure of fuel in the pressure control chamber is cancelled by the driving force acting on the piston due to the pressure of fuel in the high pressure fuel chamber.

A fuel quantity control apparatus of a supercharged diesel engine with safety measures comprises a fuel injection pump capable of increasing the fuel quantity according to the degree of supercharging, a detector for detecting the temperature in a combustion chamber or the temperature of the exhaust gas, a control circuit receiving an output of the detector, and a three-way valve driven by the control circuit to control the amount of the increase of the fuel quantity. Through the use of the apparatus when the detected temperature reaches a predetermined abnormal temperature, the amount of increase of the fuel quantity can be made zero or decreased and accidents such as melting or damage of the engine by abnormal rise of the temperature in the combustion chamber or of the temperature of the exhaust gas can be prevented.

An air-flow control valve having two vacuum chambers arranged between the air injection system and the exhaust gas recirculation system for controlling, in two stages, the amount of air diverted from the air injection system to the recirculation passageway. One of the chambers is directly connected to a vacuum source in the intake system of the engine. While the other is connected, via a vacuum delay unit, to the vacuum source.
