A machine tool for detecting a brake failure more reliably in a mechanism that stops the rotation of a vertical shaft by at least two brakes includes a ball screw extended in a vertical direction, a driving motor that rotates the ball screw, a movable part that vertically moves along the ball screw in accordance with the rotation of the ball screw driven by the driving motor, at least two brakes that prevent a fall of the movable part while power supply to the driving motor is stopped, a brake controller that releases at least one of the at least two brakes while power supply to the driving motor is stopped, and a detector that detects presence/absence of a fall of the movable part or a fall distance of the movable part resulting from the release of the at least one brake, thereby detecting a trouble of an unreleased one of the at least two brakes.

A manufacturing machine is capable of subtractive manufacturing and additive manufacturing for a workpiece. The manufacturing machine includes: a first headstock and a second headstock disposed in a first processing area and configured to hold a workpiece; a lower tool rest and a tool spindle disposed in the first processing area and configured to hold a tool to be used for subtractive manufacturing for the workpiece; an additive manufacturing head disposed in a second processing area; and a robot arm configured to hold a workpiece and transport the workpiece between the first processing area and the second processing area. The additive manufacturing head is configured to discharge a material toward the workpiece held by the robot arm during additive manufacturing for the workpiece. A machine tool has a cover body with a window, the window including two spaced window plates defining an airtight space therebetween. The space is brought to a pressure other than atmospheric. An indicator is coupled to the cover body and has an indicator portion that is displaced in response to pressure in the space. The indicating portion is visually observable from outside the machine tool, so that the airtightness of the window may be determined by visually observing the position of the indicating portion.
