A magnetic tape transport apparatus including a rotary drum having a plurality of magnetic heads and spaced-apart tape entry and tape exit points; a tape path forming device including two combinations each having one guide roller and one inclined pole disposed respectively at the tape entry and tape exit points of the drum, from which points the magnetic tape begins to contact with and to leave from the drum, respectively, thereby causing the magnetic tape to partially wrap around the cylindrical surface of the drum through a predetermined angular range and to form a magnetic tape transportation path nearby the drum; and an impedance roller disposed at a position between the guide roller and the inclined pole of at least one of the combinations in contact with the magnetic tape; the impedance roller together with one combination of guide roller and inclined pole being disposed close to one of the tape entry and tape exit points of the drum when the magnetic tape is wrapped around the drum and is transported along the magnetic tape transportation path by a tape moving device.

Improvement of a lower cylinder of a drum assembly for a helical scan type magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus, a magnetic tape being wrapped around the drum assembly in a predetermined angular range with respect to its own axis which is wider than a scanning angular range so as to have an additional tape-wrapping angular range on at least a tape-entry portion from which the tape starts to be wrapped around the drum assembly. The lower cylinder integrally has on its outer circumferential surface a tape-guiding portion for guiding the tape on wrapping it around the drum assembly, a tape-wrapping portion on which the magentic tape is wrapped along the tape-guiding portion in a direction substantially coincident with a direction of rotation of the upper cylinder and a protruding portion formed in the additional tape-wrapping angular range so as to be protruded by a predetermined amount with respect to the tape-wrapping portion. The protruding portion initially comes into contact with the tape to be entered onto the drum assembly and has a wedge-like shape in which its top is substantially directed in the tape-travelling direction. The protruding amount of the protruding portion with respect to the tape-wrapping portion being substantially equal to a protruding amount of the magnetic head from an upper cylinder of the drum assembly.

A guide drum has recording or reproducing heads and a loading device has vertical poles and inclined poles for pulling out a tape from a tape cassette mounted on the recording/reproducing apparatus and for wrapping the tape around the guide drum. The loading device includes a pole driving mechanism for driving the poles and a toggle mechanism for causing a pinch roller to come into contact with a capstan so that the tape is interposed therebetween after the tape is wrapped around the guide drum. The toggle mechanism comprises a pinch roller cam driven in accordance with the movement of the pole driving mechanism, a pinch roller arm having the pinch roller and rotatably supported at one end portion and a link member coupled between the pinch roller cam and the pinch roller arm. With this arrangement, the pinch roller is directed to the capstan in response to the movement of the link member due to the movement of the pole driving mechanism.

A video signal recording and/or reproducing apparatus comprising a guide drum comprising at least a single video signal recording and/or reproducing head, a supply reel and a take-up reel respectively fitted with a supply reel and a take-up reel of a tape cassette, tape loading mechanism for drawing out a tape from the tape cassette which is loaded and loading the tape unto a predetermined tape path so as to make contact with the guide drum throughout a predetermined range, a capstan rotatable in a forward direction, for causing the tape loaded by the tape loading mechanism in the forward direction along the predetermined tape path, tape feed back mechanism responsive to an interruption of a recording operation, for rotating the capstan in a reverse direction and rotating the supply reel disc in a tape take-up direction, to partially feed back the tape to the supply side along the predetermined tape path, and tape draw-out mechanism for rotating the take-up disc in a tape draw-out direction at a speed greater than a speed with which the tape is fed back by the tape feed back mechanism, during operation of the tape feed back mechanism. An adapter for a miniature type tape cassette comprises an adapter case having an external form an size substantially identical to those of the standard type tape cassette, an accommodating part for accommodating the miniature type tape cassette, and a tape draw-out mechanism provided within the adapter case, for drawing out the tape from the miniature type tape cassette so as to form a predetermined tape path within the adapter case. The tape draw-out mechanism comprises tape draw-out members relatively entering on an inner side of the tape path along the front of the cassette case when accommodating the miniature type tape cassette within the accommodating part, and a manipulation part for operating the tape draw-out members so as to form the predetermined tape path within the adapter. The manipulation part projects outside the adapter case to such an extent that the manipulation part hits an inserting part of the standard type recording and/or reproducing apparatus and prevents insertion of the adapter before and during manipulation of the manipulation part, and recedes within the adapter case to permit insertion of the adapter after manipulation of the manipulation part is completed.

An adapter for a miniature type tape cassette has an external form and size smaller than those of a standard type tape cassette. The adapter comprises an adapter case having an external form and size substantially identical to those of the standard type tape cassette, an accommodating part for accommodating the miniature type tape cassette, a cover provided in a state free to open and close for covering the accommodating part in its closed state, a tape draw-out mechanism provided within the adapter case, for drawing out a tape from the miniature type tape cassette accommodated within the accommodating part and forming a predetermined tape path within the adapter case, and a locking mechanism for engaging with a part of the tape draw-out mechanism when the cover is in its open state, and for locking the tape draw-out mechanism in an immovable state at a position before the tape draw-out mechanism starts a tape draw-out operation. The locking mechanism is displaced by one part of the cover and disengages from the part of the tape draw-out mechanism when the cover is closed to release the locking with respect to the tape draw-out mechanism.

A tape cassette loading device in a magnetic recording and/or reproducing apparatus comprises a cassette holder movable up and down for receiving and holding a tape cassette, a driving source for operating in rotation in response to the detection of the partial insertion of the tape cassette in horizontal direction into the cassette holder, a drawing mechanism for drawing the partially inserted tape cassette into a predetermined position within the cassette holder by the transmitted rotational driving force from the driving source, and tape cassette loading mechanism for lowering the cassette holder with the tape cassette received and held therein by the driving force transmitted from the driving source when the tape cassette is drawn into a predetermined position in the cassette holder, and for loading the tape cassette to a predetermined loading position in the magnetic recording and/or reproducing apparatus.
