Rubber-modified styrene-based resin composition

The rubber-modified styrene-based copolymeric resin of the invention comprises a matrix phase of a copolymer of styrene and acrylonitrile and a dispersed phase of particles of an S-B type block-copolymeric rubber of styrene and butadiene as prepared by the bulk-suspension polymerization method or continuous bulk polymerization of the monomers in the presence of the rubber. The rubber-modified styrene-based copolymeric resin is imparted with excellent rigidity, impact strength and appearance, in particular, in welded portions when it is prepared by adequately selecting several parameters including the weight proportion of the moieties derived from styrene and acrylonitrile in the matrix phase and content of styrene, solution viscosity, content of 1,2-unsaturated linkages, particle size and distribution thereof in the rubber constituting the dispersed phase.

Rubber-modified styrene-based copolymer

A styrene-based copolymer comprising 74.3 to 98.7 mol % of the structural unit (I) represented by the general formula: ##STR1## 1.3 to 25.4 mol % of the structural unit (II) represented by the formula: ##STR2## and 10 to 7000 mol ppm of the structural unit (III) represented by the general formula: ##STR3## (wherein R.sup.1 to R.sup.3 are as defined in the appended claims), characterized by having toluene-insoluble content of not more than 0.5% by weight, is disclosed. Efficient processes for producing the above styrene-based copolymer are also disclosed.

Styrene-based copolymer and process for production thereof

A process for producing a branched polycarbonate by an interfacial polycondensation method comprising condensing a first reaction mixture comprising an inert organic solvent, an alkaline aqueous solution of divalent phenol, a branching agent, and phosgene, the branching agent having a partition coefficient of at least 1, wherein the partition coefficient is defined as the ratio of the concentration in inert organic solvent/concentration in water, to form a second mixture containing a polycarbonate oligomer or a polycarbonate and unreacted branching agent, separating the second mixture into an organic solvent layer and an aqueous layer which contains the unreacted branching agent, extracting the unreacted branching agent from the aqueous layer with inert organic solvent and recycling the inert organic solvent which contains the unreacted branching agent extracted from the aqueous layer to the first reaction mixture. The present invention has the advantages of preventing waste water pollution and at the same time, increasing the efficiency of use of the branching agent, because it permits the efficient extraction recovery of the unreacted branching agent contained in waste water. The branched polycarbonate obtained by the process by the present invention has good melt characteristics, is great in dependency on a rate of shear, and has a small drawn down. Thus, the branched polycarbonate is suitable for extrusion molding.

Process for production of branched polycarbonate

The thermoplastic resin composition of the invention comprises (A) from 50 to 90 parts by weight of a copolymer of an aromatic vinyl monomer and an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride, e.g. copolymer of styrene and maleic anhydride, (B) from 50 to 10 parts by weight of an ABS or MBS resin and (C) from 0.01 to 1.0 part by weight of an organopolysiloxane. In contrast to conventional polymer blend compositions composed of the above mentioned components (A) and (B), the inventive resin composition is capable of giving a shaped article having a greatly improved impact strength without adverse influences on the heat resistance and surface luster of the shaped articles molded of a resin composition of this type inherent thereto.

Thermoplastic resin composition

A process for producing polycarbonate is disclosed, comprising reacting a halogenated bisphenol-containing organic dihydroxy compound and a carbonate-forming derivative in a liquid medium in the presence of pentahalogenophenol as a molecular weight modifier. This polycarbonate is superior in flame retardance, impact resistance and fluidity, and further in transparency.

Process for production of polycarbonate

Novel styrene-based polymers and a process for efficient production thereof are disclosed. The styrene-based polymers have a branching nucleus represented by the general formula: R(S).sub.k or R(A-S).sub.k (wherein all the symbols are as defined in the appended claims), and have a sulfur content of 6 to 550 ppm, a weight average molecular weight of 450,000 to 1,300,000, and a weight average molecular weight/number average molecular weight (Mw/Mn) ratio of 2:1 to 15:1. The styrene-based polymers are greatly improved in impact resistance while maintaining sufficiently high fluidity and moldability and thus when injection or extrusion molded, can provide moldings having an excellent mechanical strength.

Styrene-based/polymercaptan polymer and process for production thereof

High impact resistant polycarbonate, a process for producing said polycarbonate, and a polycarbonate resin composition are disclosed. This polycarbonate consists of a main chain with a cumylphenoxy group, as a terminal group, bonded to at least one end thereof, said main chain comprising a repeating unit represented by the formula (I): ##STR1## and has a viscosity average molecular weight of at least 10,000 and an acetone soluble content of not more than 3.5 wt %. The polycarbonate can be efficiently produced by the process of the invention. The composition comprises a polycarbonate resin and a specific amount of a phosphorus-based antioxidant.

High impact resistant polycarbonate and process for producing said

Novel polycarbonate and a process for production thereof are disclosed. This polycarbonate has a main chain comprising a repeating unit of the general formula (A) shown below, a pentahalogenophenoxy group of the general formula (B) shown below at the terminal thereof, the molar fraction of the pentahalogenophenoxy group being within the specified range, and a viscosity average molecular weight of at least 15,000. ##STR1## (wherein all the symbols are as defined in the appended claims). The polycarbonate is excellent in all of flame retardance, impact resistance, fluidity and transparency, and thus is suitable for production of various products such as home electric appliance and so on.
