To select a color tone adjusting mode in an electronic camera, a guide for adjusting the color tone is shown on a monitor (S), an operation signal from direction buttons is read (S), and it is judged from the read operation signal whether the direction buttons are operated (S). When it is judged that the direction buttons are operated, an adjustment value of the color tone corresponding to the operated button is calculated to instruct the correction of the color tone (S, S). A decision signal is read (S), and processes of adjusting the color tone (Sto S) are repeated until it is judged that the operation has been terminated. Thus, operability of the electronic camera to adjust the color tone can be improved furthermore.

Apparatus is disclosed for processing a digitized image obtained from an image sensor having color photosites aligned in rows and columns that generate at least four separate color values but only one color value for each photosite location, adjacent rows of values for each photosite being combined so that for each pair of photosites there is a single color value which is a combination of at least two different color values. In this apparatus, the combined single color values are used to produce Laplacian values for each pair of photosites. Also, the color signal values corresponding to adjacent pairs of photosites and the Laplacian values are used to produce a luminance value corresponding to each pair of photosites. Thereafter, color signal values corresponding to adjacent pairs of photosites and the Laplacian values are used to produce a chrominance value corresponding to each pair of photosites, and the luminance and chrominance values corresponding to each pair of photosites are used to produce a full color digitized image.

An automatic focusing apparatus moves a focusing lens once over a full movement range from the nearest point or from the infinite point so as to cause a photoelectric detector to output an electrical signal at predetermined stepwise lens positions. An automatic white balance adjusting device adjusts the white balance of a white object which is indoors under the influence of bright sunlight, or a white object which is indoors under the influence of dull sunlight light and a fluorescent lamp. The device includes a weighting circuit for a fluorescent lamp block, and a weighting circuit for a sunlight-and-tungsten-lamp block. The former weights an average of the fluorescent lamp block, while the latter weights an average of the sunlight-and-tungsten-lamp block. The weighted averages are used to generate a white balancing signal, which will be used for white balancing a white object.
