This invention relates to an electronic shutter of a camera provided with a fail-safe system. An electromagnet is connected to the output of an electronic delay circuit. An armature lever moves in the direction to separate from the electromagnet to effectuate the shutter closing operation when the electromagnet is demagnetized. A shutter regulating member starts operation as it is released from restraint in connection with a shutter release operation to cancel a force pressing the armature lever against the electromagnet and to effectuate the shutter opening operation. A stopping means is provided for the shutter regulating member and the armature lever. The stopping means is capable of interrupting the movement of the shutter regulating member and the armature lever before the shutter opening and the shutter closing operation is started. The stopping means interrupts the movement of the shutter regulating member and the armature lever when the electromagnet is not magnetized normally so that the shutter will not be operated. The armature lever is externally operative by means of an operating member. The shutter can be manually operated by means of the operating member.

Fail-safe system for the electronic shutter of a camera

A focal plane shutter for a camera of the type wherein an image is viewed through the photographing lens by use of a viewfinder arranged on top of the camera body. The shutter blade mechanism comprises a group of opening blades and a group of closing blades, each group of blades consisting of a plurality of separate blades which are actuated to run in the vertical direction of the camera for exposing the film. The lower group of blades has a larger vertical dimension when in the retracted condition than the upper group of blades and such is achieved by using a different number or different size of blades in the two blade groups. In both groups, the slit-forming blades are mounted by means of a link mechanism to effect parallel running movement of the blades. The pivot shafts for mounting the slit-forming blades are disposed at a position outside of the region lying vertically below the viewfinder.

A camera shutter mechanism comprises a shutter actuating lever movable between a cocked position and a rest position to actuate a part of the camera shutter mechanism, and a cocking lever having an abutting portion for abutting the actuating lever to move the latter from the rest position thereof into the cocked position thereof. The cocking lever and the actuating lever together include a locking mechanism which releasably locks the actuating lever in the rest position. The locking mechanism and the abutting portion are arranged so that when the actuating lever approaches its rest position, it engages the abutting portion so as to rotate the cocking lever into a position in which the locking mechanism locks the actuating lever.

A camera shutter equipped with a selftimer device has an interlocking member for coordinating the movement of the camera operating member and the selftimer device to obtain accurate operation of the shutter release member. The interlocking member has a first arm which engages with the operating member during movement thereof at the beginning portion of the shutter release motion and the operating member thereafter drives the interlocking member to a position in which the interlocking member actuates the selftimer device to initiate a timing operation. Opening and closing device of a camera shutter mechanism

A camera shutter includes a pair of spaced apart base plates supporting the various shutter components. At least one of the base plates is formed entirely of synthetic resin material which is electrically insulative and which possesses lubricating properties. The synthetic resin base plate has a set of tubular portions extending toward and connected to the other base plate and also has a set of shafts turnably supporting some of the shutter components, such as the control lever and control cam. The synthetic resin base plate also includes a hollow winding frame about which is wound a coil and in which is slidably inserted an armature to form an electromagnet for use in controlling the shutter operation. The use of a synthetic resin base plate dispenses with the necessity of separate lubrication and enables formation of a smaller shutter.

A diaphragm control device for flash photography is incorporated in a programming electric eye camera including an exposure control circuit and capable of automatically setting exposure time and diaphragm aperture according to the light of subject, the exposure control circuit has a photoconductive element and is adapted for controlling an electromagnet. The device includes a diaphragm lever operating in a fixed manner by the action of a spring to define diaphragm aperture, a control arm of a distance setting member, a diaphragm regulation lever controlled by the control arm and a change lever for interchanging first or second positions, at respective positions the diaphragm regulation lever being out of or in the turnable area of the diaphragm control lever. For daylight photography, the diaphragm regulation lever is forced by the change lever to be at the first position, and the diaphragm operating lever is controlled by an exposure control circuit to form a programming shutter adapted for automatically setting exposure time and diaphragm aperture according to the light of subject. On the other hand for flash photography, the diaphragm regulation lever is forced by the change lever to be in the second position, and the diaphragm operating lever is controlled alternatively either by said diaphragm regulation lever or by the exposure control circuit dependent on the light of subject so as to accomplish an exposure through the smaller of respective diaphragm apertures dependent on camera-subject distance and on scene light.

Diaphragm control device for flash photography

A control device of the shutter for a camera, which is equipped with shutter blades opening and closing an opening for the exposing operation. A control member actuated by the operation of shutter release and starting an opening member begins the exposing operation at the end of said operation, and an electromagnet connected to an electronic delaying circuit adjusts the time of finishing exposure. A shutter operating mechanism of a camera shutter which has an opening blade and a closing blade operated sequentially to open and close a shutter aperture for an exposure comprises an opening spring normally biasing the opening blade to move from a closed position in which the opening blade covers the shutter aperture to an open position in which the opening blade uncovers the shutter aperture; a second spring normally biasing the closing blade to move from a closed position in which the closing blade covers the shutter aperture to an open position in which the closing blade uncovers the shutter aperture; and a third spring normally biasing the closing blade to move from said open position to said closed position, the arrangement being such that when the shutter is charged, the opening blade and closing blade are in said closed position and when the shutter is released, the closing blade is moved under the bias of said second spring from said closed position to said open position, then the opening blade is moved under the bias of the opening spring from said closed position and to said open position, thereafter the closing blade is returned under the bias of said third spring from said open position to said closed position, thereby completing the exposure. The opening blade may then also be moved to closed position by a fourth spring. Furthermore, there are provided electrical contacts operated by the movement of the closing blade. When the closing blade is moved to uncover the aperture, the contacts are opened or closed and, after the exposure, are closed or opened again by returning movement of the closing blade to the first position.

Shutter opening and closing mechanism for cameras

A camera shutter has a set of shutter blades movable from an initial closed position in which the blades close an exposure aperture to an open position opening the exposure aperture and then to a final closed position again closing the exposure aperture. Opening and closing driving members sequentially drive the shutter blades from the initial closed position to the open position and then to the final closed position to effect an exposure. A cocking mechanism coacts with the opening and closing driving members for cocking the camera shutter to move the shutter blades from the final closed position to the initial closed position in readiness for taking an exposure. A rebound preventing device is provided for preventing rebound of the shutter blades after reaching their final closed positions and comprises a notched pin on a lever of the cocking mechanism engageable with a hook portion of the closing drive member to thereby prevent rebounding of the shutter blades. During cocking of the camera shutter, the cocking mechanism disengages from the opening and closing driving members which are thereafter free to effect an exposure.

In a single lens reflex camera, the shutter base plate is provided with a recess in which the reflecting mirror is mounted. This permits the mirror to be closer to the film plane and hence permits the imaging plane, prism and viewing lens of the view finder to be closer to the optical axis of the camera lens, thus reducing the overall size of the camera.
