A connector includes a plurality of contacts. The connector includes an insulator having a plurality of through-holes for receiving the contacts. A pair of contacts are disposed in each of the through-holes. Since two contacts are disposed in the through-hole in the insulator, even if a fault occurs in one of the contacts, signal transmission in the same line can continuously be used. Moreover, since large areas of contact portions of the contacts are secured even in normal use, the capacity of electric current is increased.

Apparatus for infrared communication between a first electronic device (10, FIG. 7) such as a notebook computer which has a slot (84) for receiving an IC card, and a second electronic device (104) such as a computer, printer, etc. that has an infrared transmit/detect unit (100) (or another notebook computer with a slot). The apparatus includes an IC card (82) with a rigid frame (112, FIG. 8) having a front portion (114) that holds a connector (88), the frame having a rear portion (116) that projects rearwardly from the slot and that holds an infrared emitter (120) and an infrared detector (122). As a result, the first electronic device fixes the position and orientation of the emitter and detector. The IC card with the emitter and detector preferably has a width (W) and thickness (T) as prescribed by JEIDA and PC CARD standards. The emitter preferably includes a plurality of emitter elements (141-144) spaced laterally along the rear end portion of the card to provide increased power in a small thickness.

IC communication card

An optical wireless communication method and apparatus that uses Manchester code via a connector connected with a personal computer. The Manchester data from the computer are converted to NRZ transmission data to be temporarily stored and read out. A frame of the read out data is appended with a head leader identifying a sender and end data at the head and end of the frame to be converted to the DMI transmission optical data. The optical data inserted between the head leader and END data are receivable being distinguished from the optical signal of the sender and optical noises. The DMI entitative data removed from the head leader and end data are converted to data of the Manchester code in the reverse course to the sender to be delivered as the Manchester data via a connector. As the optical data with the head leader and end data are distinguishable from the optical signal of the sender and optical noises, high sensitive optical receivers are available.

Optical wireless communication method and apparatus

An optical wireless communication method and apparatus configured to distinguish optical LAN data from optical noise is disclosed. The apparatus communicates using Manchester coded data via a connector connected to a personal computer. The Manchester coded data from the computer are converted to NRZ transmission data to be temporarily stored and read out. A frame of the read out data is appended with a head leader, and end data, at the head and end of the frame respectively to be convened to the DMI transmission optical data. The optical data inserted between the head leader and END data are receivable and can be distinguished from optical noise. The DMI received data removed from the head leader and end data are convened to data of the Manchester code in contrast with the transmission side to be delivered as the Manchester data via the connector. As the optical data with the head leader and end data are distinguishable from optical noise, high sensitive optical receivers are available.
