A side door hinge mechanism for a motor vehicle includes a pair of top rotary center shafts supported on an end of the door at a top portion thereof, a pair of top rotary center shafts supported on the vehicle body, a pair of bottom rotary center shafts supported on the door, and a pair of bottom rotary center shafts supported on the vehicle body. The bottom rotary center shafts are aligned with the top rotary center shafts. A top control arm in rotatably connected at opposite ends to one of the top rotary center shafts on the vehicle body and one of the top rotary center shafts on the door. A bottom control arm is rotatably connected at opposite ends to the bottom rotary center shafts which are aligned with the top rotary center shafts which are rotatably connected to the top control arm. A main arm is formed integrally in the vertical direction, and i rotatably connected at its end portion to the remaining top and bottom rotary center shafts. The main arm includes a large diameter pipe portion, a top arm and a bottom arm.

Side door hinge mechanism in motor vehicle

A quadric rotary link device for a side door hinge mechanism in a motor vehicle is disclosed. The device has first and second arms connected by rotary center shafts to a vehicle body and a side door. The hinge mechanism has a door side base and a body side base formed long in the vertical direction. The door side base is secured to the rocking proximal end of the side door. The body side base is secured to a vertical surface of the vehicle body. There are four top rotary center shafts and four bottom rotary center shafts supported at two pairs of positions in the top and bottom of the door side base and the body side base, respectively.

A door hinge mechanism for a motor vehicle is disclosed. The hinge has four rotary center shafts, two of which are supported at positions on an end of the side door, and two others at two positions on a surface on the side of the vehicle body disposed adjacent to the end of the door. A first arm is rotatably connected at its opposite ends to one of the rotary center shafts on the vehicle body and one of the rotary center shafts on the door. A second arm is rotatably connected at its opposite ends to the remaining rotary center shafts. A rear end portion of a front side fender is located at a position adjacent to and in front of the forward end of the side door. A portion of the end face of the side door is disposed outwardly in the widthwise direction and extended forward from the end face of the body of the vehicle to form an extension for covering the outer surface of the side door hinge mechanism.

Construction of body of motor vehicle

A door hinge mechanism and associated body of a motor vehicle is disclosed. The hinge mechanism has rotary center shafts supported on an end panel on the pivoting (rocking proximal) end of a side door, and rotary center shafts supported on a surface on the vehicle body adjacent the end panel. A first arm is rotatably connected at its opposite ends to a rotary center shaft on the vehicle body and to another rotary center shaft on the end panel of the door. A second arm is rotatably connected at its opposite ends to a rotary center shaft on the vehicle body and to a rotary center shaft on the door. A forward end corner portion of the end panel of the side door is raised forward on the compartment side of the vehicle body from the rear surface of the end panel where the side door hinge is secured. The raised portion of this configuration is attached to a weather strip mount. A weather strip attached thereto, comes into pressed contact with a weather strip contact surface on the vehicle body when the side door is fully closed.

A motor vehicle is provided with a side door hinge mechanism having rotary center shafts, two rotatable arms and a door check mechanism. The rotary center shafts are supported at two positions on the rocking proximal end of the side door and at two positions on the side of the vehicle body. The first arm is rotatably connected at its opposite ends by a rotary center shaft on the side of the vehicle body and a rotary center shaft on the side of the door. The second arm is rotatably connected at its opposite ends to a rotary center shaft on the side of the vehicle body and a rotary center shaft on the side of the door and is in a plane parallel to and directly below the first arm. The door check mechanism is comprised of a torsion bar, a cam plate and a roller. The torsion bar is mounted to either the first or the second arm. The cam plate is mounted on a side door of the vehicle body. A roller is rotatably supported on the torsion bar and rotatably urged against the surface of the cam plate by a torsion force. A door check force is generated by lifting the surface of the cam plate.

A light weight, rigid side door hinge mechanism for a motor vehicle is disclosed. The hinge has four top rotary center shafts, two of which are supported at two positions spaced apart from each other in a generally horizontal direction on an end of the door, and the other two at two positions on a surface on the side of the vehicle body disposed adjacent to the end of the door. Four bottom rotary center shafts are also provided: two shafts are supported at two positions on the end of the side door and two shafts are supported at the surface of the side of the vehicle body. The four bottom shafts are aligned with the four top rotary center shafts. A top control arm is rotatably connected at its opposite ends to one of the top rotary center shafts on the vehicle body and one of the top rotary center shafts on the door. A bottom control arm is rotatably connected at opposite ends to the bottom rotary center shafts aligned with the top rotary center shafts at the opposite ends of the top control arm. A vertical integral main arm is rotatably connected at its ends in the vertical and lateral directions to the remaining top rotary center shaft and the remaining bottom rotary center shaft.

Hinge mechanism for a vehicle door comprising a vehicle frame having a mounting surface extending along the vehicle frame, another mounting surface extending along the vehicle door proximate the mounting surface on the vehicle frame, and support members extending between the mounting surfaces to support the door. The support members comprising support arms pivotally attached between brackets positioned on the mounting surfaces. The support arms are pivotally attached through rotary shafts, which are individually mounted at opposite ends of each of the support arms. The rotary shafts are aligned along independently inclined axes, which define a point of convergence beneath the hinge mechanism for the independent axes, so that the upper portion of the door is positioned away from the vehicle frame when the door is opened.

An apparatus for positioning the backrest of a vehicle seat to facilitate an occupant's entry and exit from the vehicle. The apparatus includes a seat frame mounted on the floor of a vehicle and a backrest frame pivotally connected to the seat frame. A pawl member releasably engages the seat frame from teeth on the backrest frame and is controlled by an operating lever to adjust the pivotable position of the backrest. A support member slidably positions the seat frame along the vehicle and includes a pair of spaced lower rails and a pair of complimentary upper rails slidably mounted on the lower rails. A locking device mounted on the upper rail prevents sliding movement between the upper and lower rails. A cable means extending between the backrest and the locking device releases the locking device to enable sliding movement between the upper and lower rails when the backrest is pivoted beyond a predetermined position. The backrest, which is biased toward the front of the vehicle, cannot be pivoted back to its original position until a positioning lever engages a cam surface mounted on the lower rail to disengage a restricting arm engaged within a groove on the backrest.

Apparatus for positioning the backrest of a vehicle seat

A webbing retractor for winding an occupant restraining webbing in an emergency of a vehicle, wherein one end of one of resilient members, which are serially connected to each other, is connected to a takeup shaft, and, when a vehicle door is closed, a locking device is adapted to lock connecting portions of the resilient members, whereby bias of one of the resilient members is prevented from acting on said takeup shaft to lighten a takeup force, thereby relieving the oppressive feeling applied to the occupant.

Webbing retractor

A seatbelt system including a seatbelt retractor. The retractor includes a frame, a take-up shaft rotatably coupled to the frame, first and second take-up springs connected in series to the take-up shaft, a gear wheel rotatably coupled to the frame and provided between the first and second take-up springs and a means for preventing the rotation of the gear wheel when the anchor plate is moved upon application of the seatbelt, whereby during the application of the seatbelt only the tension of the first take-up spring acts on the seatbelt.

Seatbelt system

A seatbelt system including a lap webbing wound up by a retractor and turned back through a lap slip anchor swingably installed on the floor of the vehicle. Furthermore, the seatbelt is of such an arrangement that a center of the retractor and a center of the lap slip anchor are displaced relative to each other and the rotating range of the lap slip anchor is controlled whereby the wind out angle and wind up angle of the lap webbing relative to the retractor is controlled.

A seatbelt system wherein the proximal ends of a lap webbing and a shoulder webbing are wound up doubly by a single take-up shaft, the forward portions of said webbings are connected to each other, and the connected portion of the webbings is inserted through an insertion opening of a tongue plate engageable with a buckle for installation of the webbings, said connected portion being provided with a pair of stoppers limiting the movement of the tongue plate and forcedly winding out the webbing wound outside of the other webbing for preventing the webbing wound outside from loosening in a retractor case.

A tongue plate device for use in a seat belt system of the kind using a continuous webbing consisting of a lap portion and a shoulder portion for restraining an occupant onto a seat of a vehicle. The tongue plate device can be easily slipped on the webbing when the occupant fastens the seat belt and locked in any desired position on the webbing by simple manipulation by the occupant so as to restrain the occupant onto the seat without giving a sense of oppression while ensuring improved restraining effect for the occupant in an emergency.

A retractor for restraining webbings wherein two webbings, i.e., a lap restraining webbing and a shoulder restraining webbing are wound round a single take-up shaft one over the other, and tension detecting means is provided for detecting the tension of the remaining wound-up portion of at least one of said two restraining webbings. Said tension detecting means has such a construction that when the tension of said one of the restraining webbings is lower than a predetermined value, it prevents the wind-off rotation of said take-up shaft, whereby said one of the restraining webbings, which is wound off as accompanied with the wind-out of the other restraining webbing, is prevented from being slackened and blocking up the interior of retractor.

A tongue plate device for use in a seat belt system of the kind using a continuous webbing consisting of a lap portion and a shoulder portion for restraining an occupant onto a seat of a vehicle. The tongue plate device can be easily slipped on the webbing when the occupant fasten the seat belt and locked in any desired position on the webbing by simple manipulation by the occupant so as to restrain the occupant onto the seat without giving a sense of oppression while ensuring improved restraining effect for the occupant in an emergency.
