Method and apparatus for creating a short hash handle highly correlated with a globally-unique hash signature

A CAS data storage system with one or more source CAS data storage spaces and one or more destination CAS data storage spaces, and a communication line therebetween, receives input data at the source storage space for local storage and for replication to the destination CAS storage space. CAS metadata is used in the replication procedure between the two separate CAS storage spaces. Thus, data at the source storage space is used to form an active buffer for transfer to the destination storage space, the active buffer holding a hash result of the respective data item and a storage address. The system detects whenever there is more than one data item in said active buffer sharing a same storage address and upon such detection transfers a respective hash result of only the last of the data items.

Replication techniques with content addressable storage

In one aspect, a method includes receiving hash signature, determining if there is an existing hash signature that matches the hash signature received, determining if there is an existing short hash handle that matches the hash signature received, designating n-1 least significant bits of the hash signature to be n-1 least significant bits of a n-bit short hash handle if there is not an existing short hash handle that matches the hash signature received and adding a hash handle bit to the n-1 bits to form the n-bit short hash handle.

A method for use in data communications equipment for improving convergence of a hybrid decision feedback apparatus including an adaptive feed-forward equalizer and an adaptive decision feedback equalizer. An independent error predictor component is used for better convergence and then is eliminated by converting, using z-transformations, the adaptive feed forward equalizer and adaptive decision feedback equalizer to an equivalent feed forward equalizer and an equivalent decision feedback equalizer, respectively, in which the error predictor is embedded or incorporated therein. The smaller system with a reduced number of FFE-DFE coefficients has a faster convergence rate.
