A novel and useful mechanism and method for processing transactions on a point of sale system comprising of a conveyor system which continuously moves when one ore more items or items are resting on the conveyor system, and a sensing system to capture the information necessary to identify the items on the conveyor. When all items are correctly recognized by the sensing devices, the customer is charged for the items and an invoice is printed. In the event all the items are not correctly recognized the captured information is forwarded to a remote location for automated recognition processing and manual identification, if necessary. Once all the items are successfully identified, the customer is charged for the purchase and an invoice is processed and sent to the customer.

The data items are extracted from the filled-in paper forms and the filled-in e-forms responsively to the unified form template.

The sequence of complex samples is processed to estimate a channel response for each of the transmitters by maximizing, individually for each of the transmitters and based on the respective spreading code of the transmitter, a likelihood of correctly decoding the transmitted symbols using the estimated channel response.

A method for computerized processing of paper forms includes receiving an electronic image of a paper form containing text information from a client having a telephone. The text information is extracted from the form using an optical character recognition (OCR) process. A field of the extracted text information that is suspected of containing an error is identified, and a first text message is automatically communicated to the telephone asking the client to verify the identified field. A second text message is received in response to the first text message, and the text information in the field is validated or corrected according to the response.

Methods and systems are provided for check code line recognition at a point-of-sale terminal having OCR and MICR capabilities. Images of problematic characters are extracted and automatically transmitted to a remote location for on-line manual validation or data entry. Video coding of problematic characters is performed for the correction of either or both MICR and OCR results. The correctly encoded characters are returned to the point of sale within a few seconds, and combined as necessary with locally recognized characters, to assemble a correct code line for entry into a payment system.

A method for multi-user detection includes receiving a complex input signal due to a superposition of waveforms encoding symbols in a constellation of fixed magnitude and variable phase, which symbols are transmitted respectively by a plurality of transmitters in a common frequency band. The complex input signal is sampled at sampling intervals over the duration of an observation period to provide a sequence of complex samples. The sequence of complex samples is processed to determine soft decision values corresponding to the symbols transmitted by the plurality of the transmitters in the observation period, while constraining the soft decision values to a circle in a complex plane. The soft decision values are projected onto the constellation to estimate the transmitted symbols.

The sequence of complex samples is processed to determine soft decision values corresponding to the symbols transmitted by the plurality of the transmitters in the observation period, while constraining the soft decision values to be real values. The soft decision values are then projected onto the constellation to estimate the transmitted symbols.

A method for calculating density maps in hierarchical designs includes the steps of deoverlapping objects in the design, providing an area of interest in the design, generating a grid in the area of interest to partition the area of interest into grid elements, determining whether the local properties of each object within the grid elements have been previously calculated, if previously calculated, adding the previously calculated value for the local properties to a corresponding grid element, otherwise, calculating the local properties of the object and summing the local properties of the objects for each associated grid element such that the local properties are calculated only once for a given object throughout the design. A system is also includes for implementing the method.
