Orthogonal DMRS ports with resource block reuse in a single cell is provided. ABS comprises: a BBE and RUs. The BS transmits user data to each of a plurality of UEs on a PDSCH using a PRB allocation for the cell. The PRB and cell are the same for all UEs. The PRB comprises DMRS symbols. The BS transmits user data to each UE on the PDSCH using a respective non-intersecting subset of the RUs. No RU transmits user data on the PDSCH using the PRB to more than one UE. The BBE: determines non-intersecting sets of DMRS ports; assigns one set to each UE; and causes the BS to transmit UE-specific DMRS to UE on the DMRS ports in the set assigned to that UE using only a respective non-intersecting subset of RUs used for transmitting user data to that UE on the PDSCH using the PRB.

Systems and methods for using orthogonal demodulation reference signal ports with resource block reuse in a single cell

A small cell for automatic configuration of an operational parameter includes at least one processor configured to determine a provisioned list of operational parameters. The at least one processor is also configured to sort the provisioned list into a sorted list. The at least one processor is also configured to select the operational parameter from the sorted list based on a BC ID for the small cell, a sector ID for a sector implemented by the small cell, or some combination.

Automatic configuration of operational parameters in small cells without using radio environment monitoring

A small cell for selecting a physical cell identifier (PCI) includes at least one processor configured to determine a provisioned list of PCI values from a management system. The at least one processor is also configured to sort the PCI values in the provisioned list into a sorted list based on at least one predetermined pattern and modulo X values of the PCI values, where X is a predetermined integer. The at least one processor is also configured to determine an index for each sector implemented by the small cell based on a sector ID for the sector. The at least one processor is also configured to select, for each sector implemented by the small cell, a PCI value from the sorted list based on a sector ID of the sector.

Selecting a physical cell identifier in a small cell without using radio environment monitoring

One embodiment is directed wirelessly communicating with user equipment (UE) operating using discontinuous reception (DRX). When a rank for the UE has changed is determined and, in response when that happens, if an ON duration for a current DRX cycle for the UE will elapse during a current subframe is determined. In response to making such determination about the ON duration, a dummy assignment of resource blocks on a downlink shared channel is sent to the UE. The UE extends the ON duration of the current DRX cycle in response to the dummy assignment. If a channel quality indication (CQI) report has been made by the UE is determined and, in response thereto, a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) used for communicating with the UE is updated based on the reported rank and reported CQI. The dummy assignment is not made for communicating actual data to the UE.

Dummy downlink transmission assignments for extension of on state of discontinuous reception (DRX) cycle

A system for channel access in Long Term Evolution (LTE) License-Assisted Access (LAA) is disclosed. The system includes a controller and a plurality of radio points. A level one radio point transmits a first reservation signal in response to a first backoff counter reaching zero. The first reservation signal indicates that the level one radio point will begin a first transmission of a first duration starting in a next subframe. A candidate level two radio point receives the first reservation signal and determines whether the candidate level two radio point received the first reservation signal with a signal to interference noise ratio (SINR) that exceeds a reservation detection threshold for the candidate level two radio point.

Coordinated listen before talk (C-LBT) for long term evolution (LTE) licensed-assisted access (LAA)

A method for operating a small cell system. The method comprises: connecting a 2G/3G small cell and a LTE small cell with at least one management system prior to connecting the 2G/3G small cell with the LTE small cell; connecting the 2G/3G small cell with the LTE small cell; providing 2G/3G small cell parameters to the LTE small cell; adjusting a transmission power of at least one of the 2G/3G small cell and the LTE small cell; determining if the 2G/3G small cell remains operational; and if the 2G/3G small cell does not remain operational, then configuring the LTE small cell to use a 2G/3G base station to provide circuit-switched fall back.

Method and apparatus for automated circuit switch fallback in a small cell system

One embodiment is directed to a system to provide wireless service to user equipment. The system comprising a controller communicatively coupled to a core network and a plurality of radio points to transmit and receive radio frequency signals to and from the user equipment. Each of the radio points is associated with at least one antenna and is located remote from the controller. The plurality of radio points is communicatively coupled to the controller. The controller comprises at least one baseband modem to perform Layer-3, Layer-2, and Layer-1 processing for the air interface. The controller is configured to automatically control transmit power for the radio points based on operational measurements (OMs) for each radio point, wherein the OMs are based on radio resource control (RRC) messages received at the controller. In some implementations, the radio points are configured to perform at least some Layer-1 processing for the air interface.

Automatic power configuration for a point-to-multipoint distributed radio access network

An example process performed by a radio network access point configured to provide access to a first network that provides voice services includes: receiving a hand-off request at the radio network access point, where the hand-off request is for user equipment connected to a second network that provides data services; replying to the hand-off request with channel assignment information, where the channel assignment information includes a first code and corresponding to a first communication channel over which the radio network access point is configured to communicate, and where the first communication channel being reserved by various radio network access points; receiving a message from the user equipment indicating that the user equipment has a connection to the radio network access point using the first communication channel; and redirecting the user equipment to a second code and thus a second communication channel to maintain the connection.
