Inorganic oxide pigments (ceramics) are prepared by mixing the starting materials in the presence of water and in the presence or absence of assistants, drying and subsequent calcining in a rotary furnace by processing the starting materials in the presence of water into a pumpable suspension having particle sizes of 50%&lt;10 .mu.m and 100%&lt;50 .mu.m, dewatering the suspension by spray drying it to leave porous granules, and calcining those granules&gt;97% from 20 to 800 .mu.m in size.

Process for preparing inorganic pigments of particular particle size

Disazo dyes derived from 3,3'-dihalo-5,5'-dichlorobenzidine

A novel modified diarylide pigment contains (a) a pigment which is composed of a tetrazotized benzidine, coupled to an acetoacetarylide and/or a 1-phenyl-3-methylpyrazole-5-one, and (b) a water-soluble component obtained from a symmetric or asymmetric coupling product of a tetrazotized 4,4'-diamino-2,2'-stilbenedisulfonic acid and an acetoacetarylide and/or a 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone. The novel pigments possess very good color strength, very good gloss characteristics and very good transparency, and exhibit improved printing characteristics, particularly in offset printing inks.

Modified diarylide pigments and their preparation

Thermally stable lead chromate pigments or pigments containing lead chromate, which have high color strength and are provided with a precipitated coating containing silicon dioxide, are prepared by a process in which an aqueous pigment suspension is mixed once or several times with an aqueous MgSiF.sub.6 solution, the pH being maintained at 4.5-9.5 and the temperature at 50.degree.-95.degree. C., and the pigment is then separated off and worked up, these steps being carried out in a conventional manner.

Preparation of thermally stable lead chromate pigments

Mixed pigments containing an organic pigment component and an inorganic pigment component imparting improved gloss and other desirable properties to organic coatings containing the same in relatively large amounts are prepared by synthesizing the organic component in the presence of the inorganic component in a liquid medium inert to the inorganic component, such as nickel titanium yellow or chromium titanium yellow.
