The present invention relates to improved hydrogel materials using water gellants that are comprised of polymer backbones P to which hydrogen bonding 4H-units are covalently attached via a hydrophobic linker L. Optionally, the hydrogel contains additional ingredients or additives. These new reversible hydrogels can easily be fine-tuned in their mechanical performance and function and are especially suitable for biomedical applications.

Strong reversible hydrogels

The present invention relates to a modular supramolecular bioresorbable or biomedical material comprising (i) a polymer comprising at least two 4H-units and (ii) a biologically active compound. Optionally, the supramolecular bioresorbable or biomedical material comprises a bioresorbable or biomedical polymer as third component to tune its properties (mechanical and bioresorption properties). The supramolecular bioresorbable or biomedical material is especially suitable for biomedical applications such as controlled release of drugs, materials for tissue-engineering, materials for the manufacture of a prosthesis or an implant, medical imaging technologies.

Modular bioresorbable or biomedical, biologically active supramolecular materials

The present invention relates to a supramolecular polymer comprising 1-50 4H-units, said supramolecular polymer being obtainable by reacting at least one monomeric building block with a prepolymer. The present invention further relates to articles or compositions comprising the supramolecular polymer, in particular articles or compositions selected from the group consisting of decorative, thermo-reversible, or self-healing coatings, adhesive compositions, sealing compositions, thickeners, gelators and binders.

Supramolecular polymers from low-melting, easily processable building blocks

The present invention relates to a modular supramolecular bioresorbable or biomedical material comprising (i) a polymer comprising at least two 4H-units and (ii) a biologically active compound. Optionally, the supramolecular bioresorbable or bio medical material comprises a bioresorbable or biomedical polymer as third component to tune its properties (mechanical and bioresorption properties). The present invention relates to a supramolecular compound comprising a low molecular weight, apolar compound, said low molecular weight, apolar compound having a melting point of below 45&#xb0; C., a molecular weight of about 80 to about 1500 amu and a HLB-value of lower than 8, said low molecular weight, apolar compound bearing a single 4H-unit per molecule. The supramolecular compound according to the present invention may be used in coating, ink, toner, resin, lacquer, adhesive or glue compositions.

High flow supramolecular compounds

The invention relates to supramolecular ionomers. i.e. polymers having quadruple hydrogen bonding units (4H-units) and ionic groups or ionogenic groups within their structure. The supramolecular ionomers can be dispersed or solubilized in water at high solids contents while maintaining low viscosities, facilitating easy use and processing of the resulting aqueous formulations. The aqueous supramolecular ionomer compositions have excellent film-forming properties. Moreover, the polymer materials have good mechanical properties after drying, as they are not tacky, show high elasticity and low or no creep.

The invention also relates to processes for preparing such supramolecular polymers and their use in personal care applications, surface coatings, imaging technologies, biomedical applications, (themo)reversible coatings, adhesive and sealing compositions and as thickening agents, gelling agents and binders.

The present invention relates to a supramolecular polymer comprising quadruple hydrogen bonding units within the polymer backbone, wherein at least a monomer comprising a 4H-unit is incorporated in the polymer backbone via at least two reactive groups up to four reactive groups, provided that the 4H-units are not covalently incorporated in the polymer backbone through one or more silicon-carbon bonds. Preparation of supramolecular polymer containing quadruple hydrogen bonding units in the polymer backbone

The invention relates to the synthesis of siloxane polymers containing self-complementary quadruple hydrogen bonding groups (4H-units). The resulting polymers show unique new characteristics that result from the reversible, physical interactions between the polysiloxane chains that are based on the (supramolecular) interactions between the 4H-units. The polysiloxanes in this invention show unprecedented bulk material properties and are used as gelling agents for silicone fluids. The resulting gels are clear and display good material properties, while having unparalleled high silicone fluid contents.

A novel dye according to formula (I): capable of self-assembling thus forming supra-molecular structures. These self-assembling dyes may be advantageously used in an ink-jet ink for improving the stability of ink-jet ink images to light fading.

Self-assembling dyes

An ink composition is disclosed which contains at least one novel dye (CU)(SAU)that is capable of self-assembling under appropriate conditions to form supramolecular structures. More than one novel dye (CU)(SAU)and/or at least one non-colored self-assembling compound (SAU')(X)may be incorporated in these supramolecular structures. The invention relates to the synthesis of polymers containing self-complementary quadruple hydrogen groups by copolymerizing monomers containing a quadruple hydrogen bonding group with one or more monomers of choice. The resulting polymers show unique new characteristics due to the presence of additional physical interactions between the polymer chains that are based on multiple hydrogen bonding interactions (supramolecular interactions).
