A method is provided of creating a pipe connector including a first connector member and a second connector member, said connector members being adapted to be connected and disconnected multiple times, the method comprising: a) providing at least one of the connector members with a contact surface; b) depositing particles of a galling resistant metal on each said contact surface; c) at least partially melting the particles of the galling resistant metal by subjecting the particles to a quantity of heat; and d) allowing the molten galling resistant metal to solidify thereby forming a galling resistant metal coating which is metallurgically bonded to the contact surface. The heat may be provided in the form of radiant energy, using a laser beam.

Pipe connector and method

The invention provides a connector assembly for interconnecting tubular elements. The connector assembly comprises at least one pin member, at least one box member, and for each box member a respective coating layer. Each pin member has a threaded outer surface and each box member has a threaded inner surface allowing the pin member and the box member to be screwed together. Herein the respective coating layer is positioned between the threaded surfaces of the pin member and the box member. Each coating layer is of a softer material than said threaded surfaces. The connector assembly further comprises means for removing excess coating material during make up of the pin member and the box member.

Connector assembly

A system and method for lining a section of a wellbore with an expandable tubular element. The system comprises an elongate drill string having a force multiplier near a lower end thereof, which is housed within the expandable tubular element. An expander for expanding the tubular element is arranged at a lower end of the force multiplier. Anchoring means are provided at the exterior of the tubular element for anchoring the tubular element in the wellbore. Pulling the expander through the expandable tubular using the force multiplier may be combined with pulling the drill string upwards. A sudden drop of the hydraulic pressure in the force multiplier drops will confirm fixation of the anchoring means in the wellbore wall.

Method and system for lining a section of a wellbore with an expandable tubular element

Drilling system and method for drilling a bore hole into an earth formation, the bore hole having an inside wall. A drill string reaches into the bore hole and leaves a drilling fluid return passage between the drill string and the bore hole inside wall. A drilling fluid discharge conduit is in fluid communication with the drilling fluid return passage, and pump means are provided for pumping a drilling fluid through the drill string into the bore hole and to the drilling fluid discharge conduit via the drilling fluid return passage. The drilling fluid back pressure is controlled utilizing back pressure control means for controlling back pressure means. The system further provides fluid injection means comprising an injection fluid supply passage fluidly connecting an injection fluid supply with the drilling fluid return passage and further comprising an injection fluid pressure sensor arranged to provide a pressure signal in accordance with an injection fluid pressure in the injection fluid supply passage. The back pressure control means is arranged to receive the pressure signal and to regulate the back pressure means in dependence of at least the pressure signal.

Drilling system and method

A drilling system for drilling a bore hole into an earth formation, the bore hole having an inside wall. A drill string reaches into the bore hole from a surface, leaving a drilling fluid return passage between the drill string and the bore hole inside wall. A bottom hole assembly is supported by the drill string, and a drilling fluid discharge conduit is provided in fluid communication with the drilling fluid return passage. A drilling fluid is pumped through the drill string into the bore hole and to the drilling fluid discharge conduit via the drilling fluid return passage. Means are provided for obtaining information on the existing down hole pressure of the drilling fluid in the vicinity of the bottom hole assembly and back pressure means for controlling the drilling fluid back pressure. Back pressure control means control the back pressure means, wherein the back pressure control means comprises a programmable pressure monitoring and control system arranged to receive the information on the existing down hole pressure, calculate a predicted down hole pressure using a model, compare the predicted down hole pressure to a desired down hole pressure, and to utilize the differential between the calculated and desired pressures to control said fluid back pressure means.

A hydraulic motor for use in subterranean drilling operations in which a drive fluid within a first reservoir is forced through the motor by a high pressure working fluid, such as drilling mud, the drive fluid entering a second reservoir upon exiting the motor. Upon a change in valving, the drive fluid in the second reservoir is forced through the motor by the high pressure working and back into the first reservoir.

The discharge means comprises at least one pressure chamber for temporarily accommodating drilling fluid being discharged from the borehole, and control means for controlling the fluid inflow into each pressure chamber.

A system and method for controlling formation pressures during drilling of a subterranean formation utilizing a selectively fluid backpressure system in which fluid is pumped down the drilling fluid return system in response to detected borehole pressures. A pressure monitoring system is further provided to monitor detected borehole pressures, model expected borehole pressures for further drilling and control the fluid backpressure system.
