A carrier material for vinyl floor covering, wherein the carrier material includes a nonwoven layer containing at least 50 wt. % of thermoplastic fibers and a scrim for eliminating wrinkles in the vinyl floor covering. The scrim includes weft yarns having a linear density of 28 tex or less. The carrier material prevents the formation of surface irregularities and printing errors in the vinyl floor covering.

A primary carpet backing including at least a first and a second layer of fibers, characterized in that both the first and the second layer of fibers is a nonwoven layer of randomly laid fibers, that both the first layer of fibers and the second layer of fibers has a uniform composition throughout the layer, wherein the linear density of the fibers is in the range of 1 to 25 dtex, wherein both the first layer of fibers and second layer includes at least two different polymers and wherein at least one polymer included in the first layer is different from the polymers included in the second layer.

Primary carpet backing

The invention pertains cushioned vinyl floor coverings. For the production of cushioned vinyl floor coverings non-woven carriers made from glass fibers are currently used. However, handling of floor coverings with glass fiber carriers is quite difficult especially when the covering is laid on stairs or sharp edges. According to the present invention a solution to overcome the disadvantages of the prior art is a cushioned vinyl floor covering comprising a nonwoven carrier that is made from different polymers. The different polymers exist either in separate filaments or together in one filament.

A nonwoven is described comprising thermoplastic fibers with a fusion temperature T(th), bonding fibers 1 with a fusion temperature T(1), and bonding fibers 2 with a fusion temperature T(2), whereby for T(th), T(1), and T(2) the condition T(th)&#x3e;T(1)&#x3e;T(2) applies, and whereby the nonwoven contains the bonding fibers in the form of a solidified melt. Furthermore, a tufted nonwoven of the aforementioned type is described that contains tuft fibers. Finally, articles are described that contain the nonwoven or the tufted nonwoven.

A tufted nonwoven with improved stitch holding, a bonded nonwoven and methods for their manufacture are described. The tufted nonwoven with improved stitch holding comprises a face material which tufts a bonded nonwoven comprising a mixture of a plurality of bicomponent filaments 1 with a plurality of bicomponent filaments 2 wherein i&#x3b1;) at least bicomponent filaments 1 exhibit a core/sheath geometry wherein component 11 represents the core and component 12 represents the sheath or i&#x3b2;) at least bicomponent filaments 1 exhibit a side by side geometry wherein component 11 represents side 1 and component 12 represents side 2 or i&#x3b3;) at least bicomponent filaments 1 exhibit an islands in the sea geometry wherein component 11 represents the islands and component 12 represents the sea ii) the component 11 exhibits a melting temperature T(11) and the component 22 exhibits a melting temperature T(22), iii) the component 12 exhibits a melting temperature T(12), the component 21 exhibits a melting temperature T(21) and T(12) is higher than T(21) and iv) the melting temperatures of both component 11 and 22 and the melting temperatures of components 12 and 21 obey to the relation both T(11) and T(22)&#x3e;T(12)&#x3e;T(21) an wherein the face material is bonded to bicomponent filaments 1 and 2 by a solidified melt of components 12 and 21.

Bonded and tufted nonwovens II, methods for their manufacture and uses

A process to manufacture tufted backing materials comprises the steps of a) providing a roll bearing a backing material which backing material comprises a first side exhibiting a first colour and a second side exhibiting a second colour, wherein the first colour is different from the second colour, the first side is the front side and the second side is the rear side, b) unwinding the backing material from the roll, c) tufting the backing material, d) cutting the backing material at a position between the roll bearing the backing material and the tufting device, e) rotating the roll bearing the backing material by an angle of 180&#xb0;, f) unwinding the backing material from the roll in a second unwinding direction which is opposite to the first unwinding direction and guiding the backing material into the tufting device, and g) tufting the backing material. A backing material for tufted carpets or filters comprising a first woven or non-woven layer having a second colour different from the first one is also described.

Process to manufacture tufted backing materials

A tufted nonwoven includes a face material which tufts a bonded nonwoven having a mixture of a plurality of bicomponent filaments 1 with a plurality of bicomponent filaments 2. At least bicomponent filaments 1 have component 11 and component 12. Component 11 exhibits a melting temperature T(11), and component 22 of the bicomponent filaments 2 exhibits a melting temperature T(22). Component 12 exhibits a melting temperature T(12), and component 21 of the second bicomponent filaments exhibits a melting temperature T(21), and T(12) is higher than T(21). The melting temperatures of components 11 and 22 and the melting temperatures of components 12 and 21 obey a relationship in which T(11) and T(22)&#x3e;T(12)&#x3e;first T(21) and optionally wherein the face material is bonded to bicomponent filaments 2 by a solidified melt of component 21. Also described are a bonded nonwoven and methods for their manufacture.
