Silyl-functional fumarates are formed through the reaction of a methyl ester of a maleate with a chloroalkyl silane or disiloxane in the presence of an amine or phosphine catalyst. These materials are useful as adhesion promoters for polyolefins.

Method for preparation of silyl functional fumarates

A water repellent composition for treating surfaces which is an aqueous solution of a water soluble silane coupling agent and an alkyltrialkoxysilane. The alkyltrialkoxysilane is either an alkyltrialkoxysilanes with C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl groups on silicon or a blend of alkyltrialkoxysilanes each with C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl groups on silicon. A treatmetn method for wood and masonry is disclosed.

Aqueous silane water repellent compositions

A masonry water repellent composition for treating surfaces which is an aqueous solution of a water soluble silane coupling agent and an alkyltrialkoxysilane. The alkyltrialkoxysilane is either an alkyltrialkoxysilanes with C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl groups on silicon or a blend of alkyltrialkoxysilanes each with C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl groups on silicon. A treatment method is also disclosed.

Masonry water repellent composition

A novel organosilane coupling agent is disclosed and its use as an adhesion promoter in mineral-filled unsaturated polymer systems is described. Additionally, use of the organosilane as a primer for various substrates is presented. The coupling agent comprises the reaction product of an isocyanatoalkyl ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid with an aminoorganosilane. The organosilane so formed links the acryloxyalkyl or methacryloxyalkyl functionality to an alkylene, or aminoalkylene, group on the silicon atom through a urea group. Use of the organosilane as a coupling agent in a mineral-filled unsaturated polymer results in superior resistance to moisture, particularly when the polymer is selected from the group of corrosion resistant unsaturated polyesters.

Silane coupling agents

Novel ionomeric silane coupling agents are disclosed and their use in bonding a matrix polymer to a mineral substrate is described. The coupling agents comprise amic acid-functional silanes which are partially neutralized with metal cations and are prepared by reacting a mixture of (I) an amine-functional silane, (II) a stoichiometric excess of a dicarboxylic organic acid and (III) an ionic compound containing a metal cation, wherein 10% to 80% of the excess carboxylic acid functionality is neutralized by the metal cations. The coupling agents greatly improve bonding to the matrix polymer in moist environments and are particularly suitable for use in formulating filled injection molding compositions.

Ionomeric coupling agents based on amic acid-functional silanes

A novel ionomeric silane coupling agent is disclosed and its use in bonding a matrix polymer to a mineral substrate is described. The coupling agent is prepared by partially neutralizing the combined acid functionality present in a mixture of an acid-functional silane (or metal salt thereof) and an acid-functional film former with a metal ion. The coupling agent greatly improves bond strength in moist environments and is particularly suitable for use in formulating filled injection molding compositions.

Organosilicon quaternary ammonium antimicrobial compounds are described, particularly, ammonium chloride derivatives of multifunctional diamino quaternary salts, and salts containing a combination of amino, ester, and fluoroalkyl, functionality.

Organosilicon quaternary ammonium antimicrobial compounds

A method for stabilizing an unsaturated organosilicone is disclosed wherein a stabilizing amount of a hydroxylamine compound is added to the organosilicone to prevent thermal polymerization of the latter. The organosilicone may be an alkoxysilane or an organopolysiloxane having in its molecule a reactive organic group bearing at least one radical selected from acryloxy, methacryloxy, acrylamide, methacrylamide, styryl or vinylbenzyl radicals. The hydroxylamine compound may be added either to the organosilicone or during the preparation of the alkoxysilane from its respective reactants.

Method for stabilizing unsaturated organosilicone compositions

The present invention relates to water-born emulsion adhesives based on polymers or copolymers of vinyl acetate and having uniformly dispersed therein an adhesion promoter consisting essentially of an alkoxysilane and up to about 80% by weight of a plasticizer for the poly(vinyl acetate). The alkoxysilane useful herein may be selected from ##STR1## in which R is independently selected from alkyl or alkoxyalkyl radicals having 1-4 carbon atoms. The modified adhesives have improved bond strength to wood, particularly after exposure to moisture.

Inomeric coupling agents based on amic acid-functional silanes

Compositions which are particularly useful as coupling agents and primers for polyolefin composites. The compositions comprise fumaric acid and diaminefunctional silanes in mole ratios from 1.0 to 1.4 in nonreactive solvent, particularly water. These compositions are particularly effective in polyethylene composite materials.
