A lighting system and a method for providing a lighting pattern are disclosed, wherein the lighting system and method minimize non-uniform color and intensity in the lighting pattern, offers unique styling features, and provides design flexibility for the LED package and associated heatsinking devices. The lighting system including a light source, a first light bending device disposed adjacent the light source and adapted to receive light rays emitted from the light source and direct the light rays in a first desired lighting pattern, and a second light bending device disposed around the first light bending device, wherein the optical device is adapted to receive the directed light rays from the first light bending device and direct the light rays in a second desired lighting pattern.

Remotely lit optical signature lamp

A lens has a main body for use with at least one light source. The main body has a light-emitting face, a light-collecting face disposed opposite the light-emitting face, and a plurality of focal points, the latter of which form a focal ring. A central axis extends through the light-collecting face and the light-emitting face. The main body is substantially radially symmetrical about the central axis and the focal ring extends around the central axis of the main body of the lens.

An LED headlamp is disclosed, wherein the headlamp is a replacement for a seven inch headlamp. The headlamp includes a housing adapted to replace any conventional seven inch round headlamp, a first light source adapted to be coupled to a source of electrical energy, a second light source adapted to be coupled to a source of electrical energy, a first optical system disposed adjacent the first light source, wherein the first optical system is adapted to provide a low beam lighting pattern, a second optical system disposed adjacent the second light source, wherein the second optical system is adapted to provide a high beam lighting pattern, and a cover lens coupled to the housing for enclosing the first light source, the second light source, the first optical system, and the second optical system within the housing.

Seven inch round LED headlamp

A light guide includes a body having an elongate shape and a plurality of light-reflecting faces and light-emitting faces extending along the body. The light-reflecting faces extend in a stepped fashion along the body in the direction of a longitudinal axis of the light guide and are configured to reflect light rays by the principle of total internal reflection. Each light-emitting face is disposed along the body opposite a corresponding light-reflecting face. Each light-emitting face is configured to emit light reflected by the corresponding light-reflecting face. The light-emitting faces are also disposed on the body in a stepped fashion. Steps of the light-emitting faces correspond to steps of the light-reflecting faces. In another aspect, the light-reflecting faces are separated by stepped-down faces. The stepped-down faces are oriented at a stepped-down angle in the range of about 1 and 10 degrees with respect to the longitudinal axis of the light guide.

Disclosed is an LED package holder for retaining and electrically connecting an LED package. The LED package holder includes a housing configured to hold an LED package and has at least one center opening defined therein. A connector shroud is integrally formed with the housing and has a cavity for receiving a connector operable to supply power to the LED package. Two contact features are retained by the housing, and each contact feature has an inner contact and an outer contact. Each inner contact engages an LED electric terminal of the LED package. Each outer contact extends into the connector shroud so as to engage connector terminals when a connector is inserted into the connector shroud.

The condenser lens is provided for a projector-type headlamp assembly having a light source emitting light which is projected longitudinally downstream in front of a motor vehicle. The condenser lens generally includes a main body of light transmitting material. The main body defines a first surface receiving light from the light source and a second surface emitting the light. The second surface has at least one facet structured to spread the light and provide a predetermined beam pattern.

LED projector headlamps using single or multi-faceted lenses

A light emitting diode device capable of shielding or filtering the light in a manner to provide high-gradient edges or regions within the beam pattern. The LED device is also capable of providing selective coloring, thereby cost effectively improving the adaptability and number of applications which can utilize the LED device. The LED device includes an optical layer is positioned in front of a LED chip that includes a material having light transmission properties which change in response to electricity being supplied to the optical layer. The optical layer can thus transmit or absorb light from the LED chip, thus shielding or filtering light from the LED chip.

Light emitting diode device having a shield and/or filter

A lens assembly for use with a light source and including an inner lens and a light directing portion. The inner lens collects light rays from the light source through a light-collecting face and emits at least a portion of the light rays radially through a series of collimators. The light directing portion may be an outer lens having light-collecting faces and light-distributing faces. The light-collecting faces correspond with the collimators and distribute the light rays through light-distributing faces. The light direction portion may alternatively be an outer reflector. The reflector has a plurality of light-reflecting surfaces, corresponding to the collimators, and configured to reflect the light rays emitted from the collimators.

Lens assembly

A headlamp module for a motor vehicle. The module includes a light source and a translucent member for internally reflecting the light rays so as to be directed. In one aspect of the invention, the light source is discretely positioned adjacent to a periphery defined by the exit surface so as to be directly hidden from view from the front of the vehicle. In another aspect, an outer surface of the light source is directly supported by the translucent member so that light rays emitted through an outer surface of the light source directly enter the translucent member.

A near field lens for an automotive light assembly which has a reduced thickness. Generally, the near field lens includes a main body of light transmitting material. A pocket is formed in the main body for receiving light from a light source. The pocket is defined by an inner radially facing surface and an inner axially facing surface. The inner radially facing surface is structured to reduce the thickness of the lens.

A headlamp assembly for a motor vehicle having a light source, a chamber that receives the light source and a cooling channel for removing heat from the chamber. A conductive wall and an insulating wall cooperate to define the chamber and the channel. The conductive wall has a substantially higher thermal conductivity than the insulating wall to promote the heat exchange between the chamber and the cooling channel and to reduce heat exchange between the cooling channel and the relatively hot engine compartment.

An automotive light assembly produces numerous beam patterns meeting automotive requirements through the reduction of light scatter and collection and redirection in efficiencies. A light source projects light laterally, which is collected by a light conducting body having a hub and a plurality of fingers extending from the hub. By using a plurality of small individual fingers, large and bulky light pipes are eliminated and the light collection and redirection efficiency is improved.

Near field lens having reduced size

A headlamp assembly for a motor vehicle is disclosed as having a light source, a chamber within which the light source is located, and a cooling channel extending through the chamber. The chamber substantially fluidly sealed from the atmosphere and the cooling channel is fluidly sealed from the chamber to prevent direct fluid exchange between the chamber and the channel. Heat exchange, however, is permitted between the chamber and the cooling channel. The heat exchange may be further promoted by a plurality of heat exchange fins extending away from the wall of the cooling channel.

A near field lens is for an automotive light assembly, generally comprising a central body positioned between opposing side bodies. The central body extends in a vertical direction, while the side bodies are positioned on horizontal sides of the central body. The opposing side bodies are structured to collimate the light both horizontally and vertically, while the central light body is structured to collimate the light vertically but not substantially collimate the light horizontally.
